AIGLE is one of the pioneering French lifestyle brands. A brief history of the brand reveals that it was founded in 1853. AIGLE offers apparel that covers a wide range of fields from the city to the outdoors, but the iconic item since its founding has been the rubber boot. Even today, each pair is handmade by 200 craftsmen in Châtellerault, a town in western France. In an age when cost is the only thing that counts, you can tell that these boots are made in France.
Aigle is moving into a new era. The brand announced the appointment of Orelian Albe, founder of Études Studio, Jeremy Egli, and Josée Ramali as artistic directors. The brand, which has kept to its own way of doing things, has decided to bring in new blood.
For those who don't know, Etude Studio was born in Paris in 2012 as the result of a merger between a publishing company and a fashion brand. Now renamed "Etude" and based in Paris and New York, the brand presents simple yet elegant collections that incorporate the atmosphere of the street.
According to the press release from Aigle, the three designers will work together to create products that are more environmentally friendly. It is easy to talk about "sustainable" as if it were a fashionable word, but I feel the belief of a leading French brand in this area.
The first collection is scheduled to be released next June. For both Aigle and the three members of Etude, this is sure to be a major challenge that will affect their future.
