The exhibition "PROOF" will feature Tomasz Gudzowaty, a Polish documentary and portrait photographer who has traveled to more than 100 countries and continues to work on themes such as the wild, sports, and social conditions.
The exhibition consists of a series of works using Tomasz's own instant photographs on Polaroid TYPE 55 film, which was recognized as a byproduct of the photographic process.
The theme of the exhibition is the ephemeral artistry of this instant photography. In other words, immediately after the picture is taken, a clear image appears, but as time passes, an accidental scientific reaction, impossible to control or predict, slowly progresses and unexpected changes appear. Imperfect and sometimes undersensitized or over-sensitized, the image may be smudged or difficult to see, and it has a subtle beauty that is unpredictable.
Also, our partner for this exhibition is the German "Steidl.The company and its founder, Gerhard Steidel.
Gerhardt came to Japan to prepare for this exhibition, and has meticulously examined everything from the selection of a potential site to the creation of an exhibition plan and the method of setting up the venue. A photography book with the same title, produced by Steidl, will also be published. The exhibition is scheduled to tour around the world, and the Tokyo exhibition will be the first of its kind in the world.
In addition, Tomasz and Gerhard will be visiting Japan for the exhibition, and both will be present at the opening reception on Friday, June 24. Tomasz, who has traveled the world and left behind many outstanding works of art, and Gerhard, who is highly trusted by top creators around the world, have combined their deep understanding of art and creativity to create a spectacular exhibition.
