Photographer Takahiro Otsujiand model Serina Mottola, born out of a session betweenPhoto book "PUPA.Now, four years after its release in 2017 in a limited edition of 500 copies, the book is finally being re-released.
But, of course, it is not just a re-release. A newly photographed story has been added.
Mr. Otsuji describes the process that led to the start of this project.
Pupa. (pupa) grows and hatches little by little over time and becomes a gorgeous butterfly (adult). The subjects have grown up from their teens to their twenties over the past few years, and are now undergoing further changes. Every time I meet her, I see different expressions on her face, and one day, I suddenly feel as if I am catching a glimpse of a moment just before she becomes a butterfly. I wanted to photograph her again, so I started a new shoot for the re-release of PUPA.
So, the re-release adds two new stories before and after the same story as the last one.
Also produced for this year's event were two types of key chains and a T-shirt with a chest pocket that fits a photo book perfectly. Hmmm. Cute.
The design and binding of the essential photo book has been renewed, and the edition size is the same as the previously published Botts-Anderson photo book.
It is not often that a photo book produced under this kind of arrangement is re-released after a lapse of time. This must be the reason why both parties have such strong feelings for each other.
