Rimowa's global campaign "Never Still" is being developed on the occasion of the brand's 120th anniversary. The campaign features stars from various fields and introduces their stories with the keyword "Purposeful Travel. The interesting aspect of this project is that it is a journey through life.
Back in 2018, the first installment featured Roger Federer (professional tennis player), Virgil Abloh (designer), Adjoa Aboah (model), Nobuyuki Matsuhisa (chef), and Yoon Ahn (designer), while the second installment in 2019 will feature LeBron James (professional basketball player), Kim Jones (designer), and Yuja Wang (pianist).
The third edition was announced this time. The cast includes Rihanna (singer) and Patti Smith (musician and poet), as well as Federer and James once again. In this 15-second short movie, they talk about how their "journeys" have changed due to the Corona disaster that has been continuing since last year. Let's take a look.
First up is Rihanna. Based in California, she was captured driving her own car into the wilderness and spending time by herself. The photos were taken by up-and-coming photographer Gray Sorrenti.
Roger Federer, the king of tennis, used to live a life of travel, competing in international tournaments around the world. However, after the pandemic, he spent time in his native Switzerland, and says that it was a good opportunity for him to look at the beauty of his surroundings.
LeBron James is known as a star player in the "NBA." He describes his life after Corona, where he is constantly surrounded by fans as he travels throughout the season. For the first time in my life as a player, the constant traveling has stopped. I spent time with my wife, my children, and all the important people around me and realized that the most important thing in life is family.
And finally, Patti Smith, the Queen of Punk. She says, "During a time when I wasn't able to physically travel, I let my imagination take me where it wanted me to go. It allowed me to write, explore, and rethink my priorities."
The video was shot at some of the turning points in her life, including One Fifth Avenue, known for its classic "Horses" album cover, and Electric Lady Studios, the legendary recording studio founded by Jimi Hendrix.
The digest at the top of the article is a digest of these four videos in a single video. Patti Smith, who narrated the video, wrote a poem titled "Never Still" for the project, and Jamie XX, one of the members of the British band The xx, wrote the music for this gorgeous piece.
To commemorate the announcement of the third installment, a special Spotify site will open on October 8 (Fri.), allowing users to create their own playlists of music appropriate for their travel time. The playlist created by Jamie XX will also be available on the site.
Corona has deprived us of many freedoms that we should have had. Traveling is one of them. Seeing the four of them in such a situation makes me realize once again what is important.
