Matthew M. Williams was named creative director of Givenchy in June 2020.
Matthew is an up-and-comer who grew up in Pismo Beach, California and is self-taught in fashion, launching 1017 Alix 9SM, named after his beloved daughter, in 2015 , and being named a finalist for the LVMH Prize Young Fashion Designers the following year. Not long after that, she designed buckles, clips, and other hardware for Dior, where Kim Jones is the men's artistic director.
Many people may know him from the legendary art collective "Beintrill" he formed with Virgil Abloh and Heron Preston, or from creating costumes for Lady Gaga and Kanye West. He is truly a designer who can be called the poster child of his time.
The first collection presented in the form of a show was a perfect fusion of the Maison's traditional chic worldview and the essence of streetwear, which Kim also appreciated. The metal chains and paisley-patterned bandanas adorned the collection. The wallet shown here is based on the bandana motif.
