Many people may have an image of the Jeep brand as a rugged and tough off-road vehicle. That was my perception as well. At the same time, I also had a preconceived notion that it would be difficult to master because of its rugged and powerful design.
Perhaps that is why I was so shocked when I first saw the Renegade 4xe. The round headlights and the seven-slit grille were very Jeep-like, but the body size was much more compact. My parents used to have a cross-country type estate wagon at one time, so I felt confident that I might be able to drive this.
This confidence was confirmed shortly after getting in the car. The entire process, from starting the engine to starting and running, is smooth. And yet, because it has full off-road capabilities, the ride is powerful and stable. The engine is quiet, so you can hear the radio, music, and the sounds of nature from outside very clearly. It may be perfect for routes like this trip, where you will drive through the city, on highways, and on vast mountain roads.
And one more thing. LaneSense™ Lane Departure Warning Plus, a lane departure prevention system, has helped me a lot. The system vibrates the steering wheel to alert the driver when the vehicle is about to veer out of the lane or when the driver has not operated the steering wheel for a certain period of time, which is very useful on local highways where there are endless straight lines.
It is compact, but has a full range of specs. The Renegade 4xe is a vehicle that I would proudly recommend to American car novices like myself who yearn for a Jeep.
