Photographs can sometimes stir the viewer's rationality and emotions. I was reminded of this when I saw Kenta Kikuchi's photo exhibition currently being held at Midori-so.
The following is a quote from the artist on the occasion of the exhibition.
Decide what you are going to do and create your own life. Sometimes, they defy adversity and big obstacles, but they just keep on going their own way, single-mindedly, stubbornly, and powerfully. They create a way of life that is unlike anyone else's. I think it is equally beautiful.
Living in this chaotic world is sometimes painful. Even so, I encountered people who lived their lives without averting their eyes from their own path. I faced the harshness and beauty of living earnestly and engraved them in my photographs.
I have been saved many times by meeting people. I believe that meeting people and making new discoveries will lead to the future, and life will continue. I hope this exhibition will provide you with such a small opportunity.
For five years, he has been photographing men who are living strongly on their own independent paths, sparing no time for their private lives. In addition to his portrait series, the exhibition features landscapes he encountered in Hokkaido, his birthplace.
Please take a look at the photos that bring to life creatures and their lives in a way that fiction can never do.
