While the possibilities for photography have expanded infinitely with the advancement of digital technology, and the methods of expression have diversified, there is one photographer who continues to focus on the basic functions of photography, namely "documentation and realism. One such photographer is Cho Ongo, a member of Diaspora Skateboards, a leading force in the Tokyo skate scene.
Two years after his last book, "Diaspora skateboards," which documented the activities of Diaspora Skateboards for almost a decade, TANG DENG + BLANKMAGBOOKS 2021 are releasing his second book, "Crying for the moon," a photo book.
Crying for the moon" by Cho Ongo
The cover design will be available in black, green, and beige to match the concept. Below is a statement received from Mr. Chow for this work.
The theme of this year's photo book is "begging for something you don't have.
The world has changed a lot in the last few years, and my life has changed, not a little, as my life is not what it used to be.
. perhaps this has also made me think about the past a lot, but I am faced with a situation where I can't actually do anything about it, but just think about it.
Looking back, even if I had not been in this situation, I might have been unable to do what I wanted to do for a long time, and my life might have been full of twists and turns.
Life is not going to go the way you want it to go, and you just have to keep struggling. . However, although we yearn for something, we understand the reality that we cannot be that way, but at the same time, we are somewhat unable to give up.
We have produced a collection of photographs that projects such an indifferent distance from the heart.
Some are sympathetic, some are funny , and some are nostalgic. The 94 pages of the book are filled with the slightly uncomfortable feelings that Mr. Cho encountered in his daily life during the Corona Disaster.
In conjunction with this release, the first photo exhibition in a long time will be held at "cut house KYODO" from November 13 (Sat.). In addition to being the first to receive a copy of the book, on-book photos will also be available for purchase.
Mr. Cho himself will be in the gallery all day during the exhibition . You will be charmed by his unpretentious personality as well as his photographs. Details are as follows. Check it out.
