Previous,Featuring comedian Shingo FujimoriRIMOWA's "THE NEW NORMAL" project. Many of you may have seen him without his trademark glasses.
Presented here is the sixth installment of this project. The artist unit "MES" will appear.
For those who do not know, "MES" was formed in 2015 by Ken Arai (TAKERU) and Kanae Tanigawa (KANAE). Based in Tokyo, MES continues to engage in activities that defy conventional art frameworks, such as laser lighting using temporary materials, live taping, and sculptural installations. Furthermore, he has contacts not only in the field of art, but also in club culture, and is sometimes involved in the scenography of events. His various methods of expression are always surprising to those who come into contact with his works.
Let's begin by watching the video, which is about a minute and a half long. The two talk about the impetus for forming the unit, the concept of creating works, and the expression that changes with the Corona Disaster.
Among them, TAKERU and KANAE are carrying the "Rimowa Original Cabin Moon," an aluminum suitcase. This is a follow-up to the Mars and Mercury collections released in February of this year, and the body is decorated with graphics that resemble craters on the surface of the moon. . Actually, this is not a print, but a pigment imprinted using anodizing and other processing techniques. The red and white lines on the detailing are reminiscent of a space suit.

To celebrate the launch of the suitcases, an installation by "MES" is being held at the Rimowa Omotesando store, and the duo describes their work: "The suitcases are designed to be used in a variety of ways, including as a gift, as an accessory, or as an accessory for a special occasion.
The sphere is made of fiber-reinforced plastic (FRP), sprayed with luminescence, which reacts instantaneously when a laser beam is shone on it from both sides. The sphere is projected with an animation of the moon's surface in the center, while expressing the Rimowa logo and the coordinates of Tokyo, Cologne, the earth, and the moon. Usually, I project my work on a flat surface, but this time, I made it a three-dimensional work in order to evoke the image of the moon.

Although "MES" is based in Tokyo, this year they have had more opportunities to present their works in the countryside. In addition to the two-dimensional works that have been the norm in the past, they are also creating three-dimensional works, which has inevitably increased the scale of what they do.
. "Before, I used to make art for events, but now that I have more time because of the Corona Disaster, I am able to work on my artwork more. . It could be said that we are returning to our roots, or that a new normal has begun. Perhaps the term "new normal" fits us now.
The two members of "MES" are trying and evolving in the midst of complex times. They are trying to steer the ship in a new direction while making the most of their past experience.
