Creative Director Jonathan Anderson posted a photo on Instagram that had the industry buzzing. Peeking out from a large photo of a Loewe shopper was a little mouse. It was a character from the movie "Spirited Away. Yes, Loewe has once again collaborated with Studio Ghibli following last year's "My Neighbor Totoro".
The Loewe Foundation has concluded a sponsorship agreement with the Tokuma Memorial Foundation for Animation Culture, which operates the Ghibli Museum in Mitaka, for the next three years. This collaboration is a part of the agreement.
The main cast of characters, including Chihiro, Haku, Yubaba, Kaonashi, Green Frog, Lady Goose, Flycatcher, and Susuwatari, all took the plunge in response to Loewe's call for their help. Jacquard, prints, appliqué, patches, leather marquetry, embroidery... the collection, which makes full use of artisanal techniques and decorates them in every direction, is now in the realm of art. Clothes and bags made using the traditional Japanese technique of rag-weaving are also noteworthy. Roro weaving is a process of reweaving worn-out stray clothes, which is appropriate for the sustainable age.
Jonathan, who was nervous about the tactile and three-dimensional form of the piece, had the following to say about his collaboration with "Spirited Away" in general: "I was very excited.
Studio Ghibli has the power to create stories and the commitment to handcraft to give them shape. We felt sympathy for them. Loewe is also a house that believes in the possibilities of craftsmanship.
