Osaka is a city that nurtures a variety of cultures, a mixture of cobblestones and stones. It is a fascinating city where the scenery changes from city to city and the culture is unique to each area. The city of Umeda, located in the north of Osaka, has a sophisticated, urban appearance with many tall buildings. People who come and go in this place also look somewhat mature and smart. We assume that many people are fashion-conscious.
At the center of the city is JR Osaka Station, which stretches from east to west and helps many people get around, but the station is also known for its other functions. The station is also known for its other functions: the "LUCUA ELE" and "LUCUA" buildings, which are connected to the station. These two buildings are home to a variety of brand-name stores and restaurants, and they are a major force in Osaka's fashion scene.
Two years have passed since these "LUCUA ELE" and "LUCUA" became a two-building system. To celebrate this anniversary, "OSAKA NEW TRIBE" was held on March 26, ( and ). Here is a report of the event. First of all, please see the statement of this event.
I like what I like. What you don't like, you don't like. Osaka culture is "unique" and is born from the alternative sensibilities of the Osaka people. The possibilities for colors, materials, and motifs are as endless as the number of people. What is the real appeal of expressing one's personality through clothing at a time when "instant cuteness" is everywhere in the world and the value of fashion is becoming increasingly diversified? The fashion show "OSAKA NEW TRIBE," which caused a sensation last year, will be renewed this year with three different themes presented by three top stylists on the floor of the LUCUA ELE building!
I mentioned at the beginning of this article that the city of Osaka has unique faces in each town. I feel that this is connected to the fact that the people who live here all live their lives while respecting their own originality. That is why there is diversity even though it is a single city. The spirit of Osaka, which values such "individuality," resides in the "OSAKA NEW TRIBE.
The text says "with a new look," but last year's "OSAKA NEW TRIBE" was held in a space inside Osaka Station called the "Plaza of Time and Space ( and ). In other words, a special stage was created in a large space and the show was performed on it. The venue, which was divided into a stage and a viewing area, naturally had barriers, and there was a distinction between the performers and the audience. In addition, the more spectators gathered, the further away they were from the stage, making it difficult for them to observe the performers' costumes and movements.
The second "OSAKA NEW TRIBE" held this time cleared up those problems. This was because the show was held in the aisle of "LUCUA ELE". Models in cool outfits dutifully walked right next to shoppers enjoying their shopping and showed off their individual styles. The show was a live performance, and one could inspect the coordination from head to toe.
What is also amazing about this show is that it is more than just a fashion show organized by a fashion building. The show is created by a variety of creators and models, led by stylists who are active at the forefront of the scene. Stylists Tsugumi Wataru, Yohei Usami, and Tatsuya Shimada created the styles. Popular models such as Shohei Kamba, Yuka Mannami, Tatsuo Isoda, Yuka Mizuhara, etc., all lined up to create a real show by professionals.
This year's show consisted of three themes. The first one I would like to introduce is the show titled "BORDER" created by Tatsuya Shimada. The concept of the show was to eliminate the "border" between Osaka and Tokyo. Each model was given a single color, and the layered styles of various items expanded the fun and possibilities of fashion.
Next is "hi light" by Yohei Usami. In today's increasingly complex world, where various elements exist, these elements are deeply connected. The moment they overlap, a new fusion occurs. The styling of each individual is unique, each with a different backbone, but when they come together, they become a great force. The styling, with a street and underground flavor that is uniquely Usami's, seemed to reflect the reality of today's fashion.
Tsugumi Wataru, introduced last, titled "CHANGE ME," represented people celebrating their work and private lives. While her style is conservative, it changes into an exotic style when she takes off her outerwear, showing a two-sided coordination.
All of the 45 coordinated pieces presented in this exhibition are composed of items sold at LUCUA ELE and LUCUA, which shows that these two pavilions cover such a wide range of genres. As in Usami's "hi light," even individual disparate elements can become powerful expressions when overlapped or assembled together. The "OSAKA NEW TRIBE" event this time was also an event where we could see such a collection of various elements and feel the power of not only "LUCUAI-LE" and "LUCUA" but also the city of Osaka as a whole.
Next year will mark the building's third anniversary. It may not be a bad idea to keep expectations in your heart from now on.
