With the Corona disaster dragging on and the weak yen catching up with it, it is still not easy to travel overseas.
But the photographerNaoki YamashitaWhen I look at the photos taken on the John Muir Trail by the "Mere Old Man," I feel as if I am in the United States.

The photo book "Harvest:John Muir Trail," which will be released this year, contains photographs of people and landscapes that Mr. Yamashita encountered during his thru-hike of the John Muir Trail in 2018.
Incidentally, the John Muir Trail is a long-distance footpath created in honor of John Muir, the father of American conservation. It stretches 340 km across the Sierra Nevada Mountains in California and is known as a sacred place for hikers.
I realized that it had been four years since I had finished the walk.
Why did they walk?
What did you gain from this trip?
If you ask yourself the question, you won't get an answer right away.
I went to the U.S. to escape from Tokyo.
I didn't think anything of it and kept walking anyway.
Twelfth day of walking. The end came earlier than planned.
Yosemite was forced out of the park by fire.
My schedule changed, but I was able to finish the JMT in my mind.
My JMT is 20 miles shorter than other people's. But I think that's OK.
There is no need to force yourself to walk it all off.
Plans often change. It is the same in life.
There are not so many things in the world that you have to force yourself to keep doing.
What you need is to make a break for yourself.
That was one thing I could think of.
It was that kind of trip where we walked a lot but stopped to relax.

To celebrate the release, a release event will be held at Hiker's Depot, a long-established outdoor store in Mitaka, Tokyo. Yamashita himself will talk about his thoughts and feelings at the time, so be sure to check it out along with the photo book.
