It was supervised by Kosuke Usami, one of Japan's foremost skate video collectors. He created "VIDEOS," a book that introduces VHS and DVDs containing skate videos that would be unprecedented in the world, as well as related sound sources and items.

Despite the very simple composition of photos and text, the VHS and DVDs collected by Usami have an extraordinary atmosphere. Perhaps this is due to the fact that they are important artifacts in the history of skateboarding.

I first encountered skateboarding 23 years ago when I moved to Tokyo. I had never skateboarded before, but for some unknown reason, I saw a job opening at a long-established skateboard store and started working there. I remember seeing a skate video there for the first time and intuitively thinking, "This is it! I remember that I was more attracted to skate videos than skateboarding itself. I was more attracted to skate videos than skateboarding itself, and that feeling grew day by day. I think I was attracted by the fusion of music, editing, composition, and the "on-the-spot sound" that is so important for skateboarding, and also the square and rugged shape that is characteristic of VHS. I remember thinking that I wanted to "master" this path. It was a long road, but after five, ten, fifteen, and twenty years of steady research, I began to feel that it was becoming more and more realistic. With the spread of the Internet, the fever accelerated even further, and as it became possible to purchase from overseas, my collection continued to grow, exceeding 1,000 tapes and taking over my room.
The number of video tapes and DVDs in our collection has increased to such an extent that we do not even know how many we own at present, and I doubt that there are many people in the world who have such a large collection. The videotape collection has become a dying light.
With so many videos uploaded to YouTube, when I ask myself the meaning of collecting, I can only say, "Because I love it. There is no other hobby or pursuit that I have continued up to this point. I wanted to leave something behind as the culmination of all my efforts, and in the process of collecting, I always felt the need for a "skate video book. I remember that it was very difficult for me to collect information because there were no books released only for skate videos in the world. All of these things led me to start the production of the book. And as I worked on the book, I realized that my goal was not only to "collect" information, but also to "share" it, because the videos in the book were not only about the skateboarding, but also about the skateboarding itself. It was also about the videos and the skateboarding itself, which is something I had been watching for a long time. I think of the skate videos I've watched as a mirror of myself.
The 157 works introduced here are the ones that I can say "I love! I can say "I love them! Therefore, this is not just an illustrated book. It's just my subjective selection and my feelings, but that's what was important to me. I hope this book will inspire people to love skate videos and to pursue skate culture. I also hope that older skaters will have nostalgic memories of this book.
