Director Derek Cianfrance, who depicted heaven and hell in love in "Blue Valentine" and created a drama of doom and gloom and rebirth for two generations like "The Godfather" series in "Place Beyond the Pines", has made movie lovers roar.
The director, who has established a cordial relationship with outstanding actors Ryan Gosling, Michelle Williams, and Bradley Cooper, chose two Academy-nominated actors, Michael Fassbender and Alicia Vikander, as the perfect pair to star in the film. They are also a married couple.
~STORY~.
A couple of lighthouse keepers live on an isolated island.
I didn't need anyone else. I was so happy that I wished for no one else. Until I realized my "sin".
Tom became a lighthouse keeper on an isolated island in Australia, closed-minded by the scars of war and seeking only solitude. However, the beautiful and vivacious Isabelle gives him the strength to live again. They are united and live happily on the isolated island, but repeated miscarriages break Isabel's heart. One day, a boat washes up on the island. On board is the dead body of a strange man and a crying baby girl. Isabelle wishes to raise the baby as her daughter. Four years later, Isabel and Tom are at the height of their happiness with their adorable baby daughter when they happen to meet her birth mother, Hana...
It has a structure similar to that of "Blue Valentine" in that it depicts both the climax that fills the audience's hearts with happiness and the pain and suffering, but it also questions ethics and righteousness, and does so in a very natural way.
As I watch the choices they make in their situations, I wonder what I would do if I were in their shoes, and which of the characters I would feel emotionally involved with. This is a film that makes you think about such things.
Perhaps no one is wrong. So how do you feel about their actions and why do you feel that way? After you leave the cinema, you will probably be thinking about these unanswerable questions. This is the "happy encroachment" of cinema into our daily lives. Please enjoy this film, which will linger in your mind long after you have seen it, along with the brilliant performances of the actors.
