A Los Angeles-based photographer, he is the author of the publishing labelDeadbeat ClubClint Woodside, who runs "Vineland," and Dan Monique, another photographer, musician, and director, will hold their first exhibition in Japan, "Vineland," at the gallery Voilld in Nakameguro, starting June 2.
Clint is a photographer, but also runs Deadbeat Club, a publishing label supported by skater Ed Templeton and others, and releases zines and photo books, while Dan has shot portraits of Snoop Dogg, Kendrick Lamar, Skrillex, and others . a photographer, musician, and director who is also a well-known creator. They have been friends for more than 10 years, working together on collections and drinking and talking.
For this exhibition, the two artists turned their attention to the San Fernando Valley, a desolate town in the suburbs of Los Angeles. The title of the exhibition comes from the name of one of the streets, Weinland Street.
The images of Los Angeles are different from the image that everyone has of the city, and the various moments are captured from their own perspectives, including nostalgic, melancholy, and casual scenes, and sad cityscapes with the scent of past glory lingering in the air. While these scenes are special and lovely to both of them, each of them seems to appeal to the viewer through the work, asking whether it is the past, a memory, or a bright future.
The exhibition will feature about 20 prints of photographs taken by the two artists, as well as limited-edition goods such as zines and T-shirts for sale. The exhibition will be held until the end of June. Please come and visit the exhibition.
