Have you heard about the visual book that Lucy and Luke Mayer, the husband-and-wife team behind Jil Sander, release on an irregular basis in collaboration with photographers and others?
This project, "Jil Sander Publishing," has gradually increased in frequency since "Sicily" was published in 2020 by photographer Olivier Kerverne, and has now become one of the essential media for Jil Sander's world view.
The new book, "Los Angeles," was announced this time.
As the name suggests, this book is set in Los Angeles, U.S.A. Photographer Chris Rose, who has previously participated in "Jill Thunder Publishing," captures the free atmosphere of this city in color and black and white.
In fact, the Mayers were also attracted to Los Angeles, where they completed Jil Sander's Spring/Summer 2023 collection. The couple describes the place as follows.
You can't talk about or look at L.A. without mixing reality and fiction: movies, paintings, photographs, actors, artists, characters, etc." California means a desire for different ways of living and being, from hippie ideology to Silicon Valley futurism. It means innovative perspectives, nonconformism, psychedelic experimentation, contradiction, and opportunity. Modernity. It represents our desire for freedom."
Los Angeles ¥25,300
The binding of "Los Angeles" is meticulously hand-bound with pages printed on uncoated paper and accordion-style binding. It comes in a pale pink canvas box.
It will be available at select Jil Sander Boutiques starting Friday, August 18.
