I was surprised to see a pea coat by HERMÈS when I picked it up, attracted by its rounded silhouette. The entire back of the coat was made of calfskin.
Close inspection reveals that the calfskin serves as a frame, as it is also found on the reverse side of the notched collar and on the inside of the pockets.

Framed in Super 180's compact wool. Compact wool is characterized by its low pile, silky luster, and smooth hand, but this wool is woven in the shape of a chevron (mountain-shaped rank insignia) and has a matte finish. It is also water-repellent, making it a wool that is truly worthy of framing.
