This year marks the 80th anniversary of the Bean Tote! The Japan-only design celebrating this milestone has an imposing presence.

Let me start by explaining the background behind the creation of the "boat and tote.

Back in 1944. At a time when electric refrigerators were not yet widespread, American households used a wooden box called an "ice chest" that used cut-up ice to cool the inside of the cabinet.

However, carrying heavy ice to the ice chest is hard work. To lighten the burden, the "Beans Ice Carrier" was born, and this is the origin of the "Boat and Tote.

The production is handled by a dedicated team that has studied for many years at the company's factory in Maine, and the style of finishing all processes from sewing to inspection by hand and human eye has not changed over the past 80 years.

The reason why it continues to be a timeless classic is its quality. The material is tough 24 oz. canvas woven with select American cotton. The bottom is reinforced with additional canvas, and the seams are double-stitched with heavy-duty T69 bonded nylon threads to resist dents even when carrying heavy loads.
