In every age, conservatives are always in the majority and those who take on challenges are in the minority. But sometimes it is the latter who change the world.
And, certainly in the minority, photographer James Ozawa's exhibition, "The Dreamer -message from a human being-will be held at "Gallery NP Harajuku" from Monday, August 28 to Friday, September 15.
."Kodak Alaris JapanUnder the auspices of the "The Art of the Museum", 63 silver halide prints and 46 slide film projections will be on display.
In mid-2016, Ozawa flew to Australia on an impulse. He bought a van, spent a month removing all the interior, installed a bed/fridge (for film storage) and solar panels to run it on the roof, and set off. After many twists and turns, he arrived at a hippie village deep in the mountains, where he filmed for eight months.
When I left Japan, people around me seemed to say, "Maybe you should think things through a little more carefully." But I followed my intuition and arrived at this village. When he met people living on the outskirts of society here, he felt a strong sense that he was among friends, despite the fact that they were all so crazy that they could not communicate with each other. He then snapped the shutter based on his intense feelings for these people.
The title of this exhibition, "The Dreamer," has two meanings: dreamer and weirdo. The gallery is located in Harajuku, a big city, and through photography, we want to tell people to "follow their dreams" and "be weird," and we want everyone to have enough love to tolerate that.
The following are Ozawa's words as they appear at the photo exhibition.
What is created by society and common sense may not be who you really are.
What's wrong with following your dreams to the fullest, having no money, and being treated like a freak?
Life is short anyway, so I think it would be more enjoyable for you and those around you if you think about what you can do for others and live your life with your individuality exposed.
Don't worry too much, there are plenty of crazy friends out there.
We've had enough of competition, efficiency, and digital, so let's create a more interesting world together."
Mr. Ozawa's words are the antithesis of a boring society where only "correctness" is respected.
The photos should be liberal and humanistic. These photos should be seen directly with the eyes, not on a monitor or smartphone.

James Ozawa James Ozawa
Born 4/24/1987 (age 30) Photographer
2008-2010 After dropping out of the University of Sydney, Australia to become a photographer, studied under two other photographers, Gota Yuki and Manabu Yamaya.
2011-2013 Worked for two years under an exclusive contract in the photography department of Medium Inc.
2013- After the above experience, became independent as a freelance photographer, working on a wide range of commercial shoots in fashion, lifestyle, and cuisine, mainly for miscellaneous newspapers and advertisements.
2016 Although he had been shooting mainly commercial photographs with digital cameras, he could no longer suppress his sense of contradiction as a person involved in the field of photography, as he kept turning away from the rapidly shrinking field of silver halide photography. He moved to Australia when he was 29 years old, and started to search for a way to burn his greatest theme, "love", into his photographs.
