The history of the brand dates back to World War II. The idea originated from a pair of shoes made of soft leather that Nathan Clark, the fourth generation of the founding family of Clarks, encountered in the war zone. At a time when only dress shoes or work shoes were in circulation, these casual shoes, which were neither, made an impact on Nathan. In 1950, after the war was over, Nathan recreated the shoes from memory and put them on the market.
