In the case of HELLY HANSEN, for example, these T-shirts were created from collected plastic bottle waste. The second phase of the UpDRIFT® T-Shirts Project, which was born out of the idea of making people aware of the marine environment, is the release of a collaborative T-Shirt with DESCENDANT.

Each T-shirt is made of "UpDRIFT®," a recycled polyester yarn made from marine debris collected during beach cleanup activities on Ishigaki Island. The amount of PET bottle litter that washes up on Japanese beaches is estimated to be as much as 30,000 to 50,000 tons per year, or the equivalent of 3,000 to 5,000 dump trucks.
