Caught one after another, Wakayama bass!
After a while, the sound of cracking echoes off the quiet surface of the lake. It was Mr. Murata who got a hit. A good-sized bass jumps into the air, but just as he is about to catch it, it escapes. This brings a smile of disappointment to his face.
However, the bite seems to have continued after that. It is a battle with the bass that does not bite through. Soon after, we caught it safely!
Murata: I did not immediately awash, but was patient for a bit and sent it on its way, and then I caught it. My hometown is Shiga, so I have fished for bass in Lake Biwa before, but that time I was fishing for carp and catfish, so this was the first time I caught a bass.
Ishii continued to get bit and caught two or three more fish.
Ishii: I can feel the worms pecking at me all the time. It's not big, but I enjoy it in a pleasant landscape.
Komatsu a little further away had no bites at all. He changed from a straight worm to a shad tail worm and changed his mind with a down shot rig setup.
Komatsu: I changed the worm and got a bite once, but it didn't ride. I think the reaction is not bad, so I will continue to persevere.
Ikemoto made his first wholesale purchase of a DAIWA mobile pack, which he had just purchased for travel use. It is a convenient lure rod that can be carried compactly with its 48 cm finished size. Ikemoto is aiming to improve his fishing skills by fishing with lures that he has no experience with, such as high-specific gravity worms and cranks.
Mr. Murayama, who had been trying a variety of lures, also got one fish in the midst of a sluggish response. It was a down-shot rig with a straight worm set on it, a hard-won strategy for the angler himself, who wanted to catch even one fish.
And Murata-san has a bass that has increased in size. It had been a while since he had fished for bass, and he had gotten a feel for it.
Murata: I find that the way I usually move the fish in the ocean fishing, it moves too much more than I would like. I feel bass fishing is more delicate than salt fishing. I feel like my fishing has broadened.
Thus ended the first day. We were able to safely play with black bass at our first location. The next day, we planned to fish for tuna and bonito at sea, but the boat was cancelled due to rough seas. So, we will be fishing for bass again tomorrow from early morning!
