Tuna, bonito and black bass in Wakayama. Huinamu Fishing Club's summer camp 2025.
Offshore to deep mountains in WAKAYAMA

Tuna, bonito and black bass in Wakayama. Huinamu Fishing Club's summer camp 2025.

It's too hot this summer. That said, we don't want to waste the summer. So the Huinamu Fishing Club planned a 3-day/2-night trip to Wakayama, the southernmost tip of Honshu. The destination was Wakayama, located at the southernmost tip of Honshu. The targets were tuna and bonito! We also decided to go deep into the mountains to fish for black bass to fully enjoy the magnificent nature. It was a romantic trip, full of trial and error, with fickle weather and dreams of big fish.

Finally hit with a very hot nabura!

Several chances came up, but no response on the lures. The chances of catching a nabla are high, but it is not always possible. We run the boat looking for a nabla that eats.

After a while, a bird pile was formed in the nabula, which was clearly different from the previous one. A "sardine ball," a dense mass of sardines, had formed. According to the captain, bonito weighing about 6 kilograms were rising to the surface! This was our best chance of the day. Then, Mr. Murayama's reel jigged and jingled, and it seemed to be a hit!

However, the fillet rubbed against other skipjack fillets and broke the threads. ......

Murayama: I threw it over the sardine ball and rolled it through quickly and it didn't come out. I threw it again and stopped in front of it, and it bit. But it got away.

Although the result was disappointing, the members were excited about the hot situation and their first hit.

Murata: It was frustrating. If I were surf fishing, I would have reeled in fast the moment I landed on a nabula, but I did so out of habit. I was so excited that I forgot to stop and let the lure sink for a bit, even though I could have cast to a good spot.

Ishii: When the bonito hit, everyone's spirits were lifted and I was as happy as I was. Unlike bass, it is a team game. When you get a hit, it's hard to catch that weight by yourself.

Although disappointed with the disappointing result, another great opportunity presents itself. Tuna are feeding so actively that they are breaking the surface of the water!

As soon as it jumps out of the water, the yellow body of the tuna, as its name implies, shines out, and its dignity is unmistakable. A wild tuna swimming in the ocean is a sight you wouldn't see if you weren't fishing. It is a sight you would never see if you were not fishing. The sight of fish that we take for granted, alive and well, is a sight to behold.

We all cast with excitement. The captain said, "If you miss this one, there will be no next one. We were so excited that the captain said, "If you miss this one, you won't be able to catch the next one.

But again, no food. After the tension and elation, only a sense of emptiness remained, and the process repeated itself. After that, I found a bird hill several times and threw it, but there was no response, and it was time to return to the harbor.

Ishii: It was thrown in a good spot and I reeled it in, harried, but no reaction. Maybe I was not good at moving the lure. It was different from other types of fishing. I couldn't catch it, but I was overwhelmed just by seeing it on the water.

Murayama: I went into the fishing trip thinking that if I could catch a fish, I would be happy, but it was still frustrating. Luck was not on our side, but it was a valuable experience for all of us to cast toward the nabura. I would like to come back again.

Murata: Last year, I had the experience of hitting a kampachi of about 70 cm on the offshore shore of Hachijojima, so I thought I could catch it. But I lost confidence. You can't experience that kind of tension anywhere else, so I definitely want to get my revenge.

Ikemoto: It was refreshing to see the attitude of all of us, bloodthirsty with full adrenaline, working together as one to go fishing. The time when the nabura are boiling is short, so you have to be ready. It was a good experience, not a sweet one.

Komatsu: Two defeats in a row after Sagami Bay. It's the difficulty that makes me burn. It was the first time for me to use such heavy tackle, and my lure action was not good enough yet. It was frustrating not to catch fish, but I think it will lead to the next challenge, so I want to try again.
