Do not stand out as a bad actor or fashionista.
There are many fans of your style of dressing, such as TOLADO and vintage clothing, aren't there, Mitsuishi-san? Did you become interested in vintage clothing after moving to Tokyo?
Light stone: Yes, I did. However, it was a completely different feeling from today's "secondhand" clothing. The same was true for items released from the U.S. military. It was cheaper than buying new, so I often went looking for used clothes even in Hakata. Once I got to Tokyo, there were many used clothing stores, and that was one of the things I looked forward to.
What made you discover the depths of vintage clothing?
Light stone: No, no, no, I am not "into" vintage clothing. I don't know much about it at all. I don't even collect them.
Eh? That's unexpected.
Light stone: It really is. Rather than collecting records, I just buy the ones I want to listen to, not more and more. Of course, I sometimes buy jackets, but when I don't listen to them anymore, I let them go. Clothes are the same way. I give them to other people and pass them around. In short, I am not good at talking about the details of things. It is a little embarrassing to talk about the specifications of clothes in detail. I think it's cooler to have it tucked away on your back, and I think it's better if you don't know about it.
I see. So you are not digging for "these old clothes are military from the 60's..."?
Light stone: That's right. For me, I choose clothes because I see someone wearing them in a cool way, or because I like the way they look. There used to be a time when I was particular about the age and details of jeans, but it was only for a moment. Now it's more of a feeling, like "I like this faded color. Of course, there are people who like to drink while talking about the history of clothes and other trivia, but I am not like that. However, I think it is interesting to inherit old clothes that were worn by someone else. It is the same with cars. It is fun to imagine that there was someone who drove the car before you, and that there must have been another owner before that person.
Do you have any "my rules" when you wear clothes?
Light stone: Yes, anyway, don't be "too decisive". Don't be too assertive. I want to wear clothes that blend in naturally with everyday life and society, without emphasizing, "I'm here! I want to wear clothes that blend in naturally with everyday life and society. The other thing is cleanliness. This is especially important at my age. Also, perhaps more important than clothes is posture. I think it is more important to stand up straight and not fidget with your phone while waiting for the train. I feel that these things are much more important.
Your "not too assertive" style also goes along with the idea that "I'm not filming myself, I'm filming a movie.
Light stone: Yes, I agree, and I think it's a good idea to be as open as possible. The same goes for roles; you can't be evil and stand out. It's all about, "No one is looking at you."
Was there ever a time when you felt lost in the fashion world?
Light stone: There was, during the DC brand boom in my 20s and 30s. Garçon and other designer brands were all the rage, and I sometimes forced myself to buy them.
So, that experience has brought you to where you are today.
Light stone: That's right. However, I chose clothes that were more traditional. For example, I did not buy clothes that were too eccentric, such as those with slanted zippers or zippers on the shoulders. I chose clothes with a normal silhouette. But I still enjoy wearing clothes.
