Interview with Kiyo Kurosaki and Kenichi Endo for the film "Miharashi Generation.
The human drama swirling in the "small society" of the family.

Miharashi Generation" is the first feature film with an original screenplay by director Yuga Danzuka, who was selected for the Directors' Fortnight at the 78th Cannes International Film Festival as the youngest Japanese director at the age of 26. The film depicts the universal theme of family problems in a light-hearted, albeit heavy-hearted, manner, and questions each person's view of life and family. We interviewed Kiyo Kurosaki and Kenichi Endo, who play parents and children with difficult relationships in this film, about the film, the director, and their own ways of dealing with people.

As an actor and as a human being.
What is the stance of both of us to face the other?

-Next, I would like to ask you about the two of you in your daily lives, not as actors, but as people.

Kurosaki: I am not a shy person at all, but considering the possibility that the other party is shy, I try not to be too aggressive, but at the same time, I try to give the impression that I want to get along with them.

Endo: I have never been very good with people. But it would be scary if I kept quiet with this face (laughs). (laugh). So I try to speak to people myself and greet them firmly.

Kurosaki: There is Endo as a yakuza, and there is Endo as a human dog, so I wondered which one is the real Kenichi Endo. I was nervous before we started working together, but I was relieved to find out that he was the "dog with a human face" (laughs). (laughs). That was really interesting.

-Do you have your own techniques to break out of a situation like this one, when you have crossed paths with a family member?

Kurosaki: I often have fights with my mother, but I want to make up with her as soon as possible and go to apologize myself as soon as possible so that our differences will not spread any further.

-It is also common with the role of Ren, who actively strives to solve family problems.

Kurosaki: That may be true. On the other hand, Hatsu, played by Mr. Endo, did not make any major compromises, did he? When he was living with his family and when he reunited with his children 10 years later, his stance toward his family did not change.

Endo: That's right. People do not change so easily. The director knows that kind of human difficulty very well, doesn't he? He must be observing people on a regular basis. I have been alive much longer than he has, but I was astonished by the director's direction. I don't think he ever once said, "This would be better. I was really impressed by the director.

Kurosaki: I think you have already established what "this is it" in your own mind since you have built up such a long career, but I don't think I would be able to change my axis and perform according to the work and the director even if I spent a few decades more. I don't think I would be able to do it even if I had to spend a few more decades.

-Please give a message to each person who will see this film.

Kurosaki: My first starring role in a film with director Danzuka, who is a close friend of mine, will finally be released in theaters. I hope that many people will see the film and that it will make them think about their own families.

Endo: Kurosaki-kun, in his first starring role in a film, and director Danzuka, making his feature debut, have teamed up to create a wonderful film. The film is also interesting for its new techniques and detailed direction, and I think core movie fans will enjoy it as well.
