MONEY IS OVER = no money needed.
Before the invention of money, people obtained goods through barter. For example, one person made rice, another made a hoe, and they lived by exchanging their respective specialties.
Hiroshi Ozawa has now turned his attention once again to this primitive practice, and will hold the "MONEY IS OVER" event at Shibuya PARCO from October 17 (Fri.). OVER" event to be held at Shibuya PARCO from October 17 (Fri.), cash, credit cards, and PayPay will not be accepted. The only way to get what you want is to barter. It is a radical event.
Shibuya PARCO asked us to do an event that went beyond what they expected. and asked me to put on an event that went beyond my expectations. So I decided to barter under the title "MONEY IS OVER. OVER," and we decided to do a barter event. It was not my intention to strategically go against the times or anything like that. If anything, this project was born out of my initial impulse. Barter is a very simple mechanism, physical and interesting.
About 50 people from the fashion industry, including Hirofumi Kurino of "United Arrows," Shinichiro Nakahara, representative of "The Conran Shop Japan," Yoshikage Kajiwara, representative of "Lowercase," and Daishi Nishino, designer of "NEET," gathered to share Mr. Ozawa's thoughts and ideas. The items lined up for this event are the clothes that each of them "can't throw away even though they don't wear them.
Some were very hands-off, offering us lots of clothes, and others, I hate to say it, but they would give us their unwanted items for us to dispose of." There was even one person who gave us a very nice side dish. It is interesting to see the character of each person in the items, and I think the lineup is a mixture of gems and stones. There was even one person who, in response to my question, turned his closet upside down and found that he couldn't let go of all the clothes he remembered and contacted me saying, "I can't participate after all. It was like they were clothes lovers, and I could really understand that.
Not wearing something does not mean you can throw it away. That is why some of the items lined up at the venue have a comment on the tag with the donor's memories and story. Ozawa examines all the items brought by visitors and decides which items to exchange, taking into consideration not only the brand, price, and rarity of the item, but also the feelings of its former owner. He stands at the storefront like a pawnshop owner, so to speak.
I'm wondering if it would be possible to exchange one item for three, like the multiple trades in baseball. There are no clear rules, so I honestly don't know how it will turn out until the event starts. That live atmosphere is one of the best parts of the event. Besides, I don't want the event to end immediately after the exchange. I listen to what they have to say about the items they have brought, and conversely, I tell them about the charms of the items as if I were an interpreter. It's going to be a barter session where we can enjoy this kind of conversation.
The exchanged clothes will be laid out at the venue as they are, and may even be handed over to someone else again. Such a cycle results in a lineup of items that changes from day to day, and even during the short exhibition period, there is something new to discover each time you visit. This is also the charm of the "MONEY IS OVER" event.
I would like to have customers who have completed the exchange write down their tags. In this way, the clothes of those I approached and those who came to the event will gradually be mixed together. Stores and customers, people in the industry and the general public, the famous and the unknown - such hierarchies will disappear, and the world of "MONEY IS OVER" will revolve purely around a gut feeling that "the clothes are cool. I hope that the world of "MONEY IS OVER" will revolve around a pure intuition that the clothes are cool.
