OTONA TRUCK, S.T,N.E. About furniture created by an overwhelming inclination toward comfort.

TRUCK FURNITURE is an Osaka furniture maker with no wholesaler, yet it continues to produce products that are admired by many people. Norihiko Kise, the creator of TRUCK FURNITURE, launched his solo label, S.T.N.E., at the end of last year. What's more, he has taken a big step in the direction of simplicity. What is behind this change? We were able to ask him a lot of questions about his furniture and himself.

S.T.N.E. details that have been accumulated through physical experience.

You have more than 40 products? That's quite a lot, isn't it?

Kise: I don't count them myself. When a switch is turned on, I start making many things at once, and instead of concentrating on one thing and finishing it the next time, I start several things at the same time and redo them many times to reach the goal. For example, I spend more than two years on a sofa, making improvements over and over again until I am satisfied with it while actually using it at home. For the items we sell at the store, we always want to pursue the best version until the very last minute and give the customer something that is even a little better.

TRUCK" is known for its "FK SOFA. S.T.N.E." has created the new "MORGAN SOFA. It is characterized by its fluffy seating comfort. It can be freely combined from a wide variety of variations (¥284,900~).

You used Kvadrat fabrics in many of your products this time, including sofas, didn't you?

Kise: This is the first time I have used Kuvadra fabric. I have been interested in Kuvadra fabrics since they started calling themselves "Adult TRUCK," and I wanted to try them out for myself, so I bought a variety of fabrics one meter at a time. I had been using original fabrics, but Kvadra has a 70-year history, and its quality is highly regarded in Europe, and its prices are quite expensive. So I asked myself if there was something more I could do, so I reviewed and updated the various materials, and then reviewed and improved the contents one more time so that they would not be outdone. I thought this worldview could reach a different audience than before.

When I actually sit down on the sofa, I can see that the cushion stuffing has been calculated to be just the right amount of softness.

Kise: It's not a calculation, it's just a feeling. The surface is soft and fluffy, but the inside is a bit squishy and supportive. I used to sit on this sofa at home and watch movies. When you watch a movie for more than 3 hours, you get into a very sloppy position, don't you? At that time, the way it hit my back and head felt a little hard. After that, I couldn't watch the movie because it bothered me. The next day, I replaced it with an improved version and tried using it again for a few days. I want to give the customer something that is as good as possible. Nothing has changed since the days of "TRUCK.

Which was the first prototype that took shape?

HAVANA ARM CHAIR" (¥142,560~) is a generously sized chair that can also be used for dining.

Kise: The most obvious example is this chair. When the term "adult TRUCK" didn't even exist yet, I put three decorative lines on the legs, and once I looked at it objectively, I thought about losing it, but I kept it. Once I looked at it objectively, I thought about losing it, but I kept it. I don't know if they are actually anti-slip or decorative, but I like the feeling that they are there because they are necessary.

What kind of wood does "S.T.N.E." use?

Kise: White oak and oak. Two colors were made for [S.T.N.E.]." Jack Brown" and "Solid Natural." I wanted to keep the color of "Solid Natural" as natural as possible, but with a bit of white in it. Oak turns yellow in the sun, so we added UV-cut ingredients to the paint to suppress this, so the color changes slowly without turning too yellow. TRUCK" has a brownish image, whereas I think this would go well with a clean, white box-like atmosphere.

I was also surprised to see you use a material like marble.

Kise: I wanted to use stone in my kitchen, and after looking at various materials, I chose a limestone called "Jurai Yellow. The surface has a rough, not shiny finish, and I like the natural look. The stone dealer told me that it is not recommended for use around water, but I tested it at my own risk, using it in my kitchen at home for more than a year. Some areas turned white with lemon juice, but after a few months it was gone and I had no problems.

The ALSACE COFFEE TABLE is available in oak (¥253,000) and limestone (¥437,800).
