KEEN IN FUJIROCKFESTIVAL
What they saw at the rainy Fuji Rock. Shiori Takei / MONO NO AWARE
The 2017 Fuji Rock Festival was rainy. The conditions were truly terrible. . Nevertheless, no one lost sight of the attitude to enjoy the space, the music, and the festival. The vast field was filled with simultaneous live performances, and no one could possibly cover them all. . Therefore, the true identity of Fuji Rock exists in the individual experience. . HOUYHNHNM's approached the true nature of Fuji Rock as seen through the eyes of each of the four artists. Walking around with KEEN on their feet, they look back on the Fuji Rock as captured by their instant cameras, along with interviews.
Shiori Takei Models . A heavy listener of both Western and Japanese music. She has participated in Fuji Rock eight times in a row.
'Pervert...!!!' . like that (laughs).
How many times have you attended Fuji Rock so far?
military or naval officer. since 2010, so this is my 8th time this year. The first time I went was when I was 19 years old . It was right around the time I started listening to Western music, and the first thing I got into was Radiohead and Sigur Ros.
They are two of the greatest dark rock bands of all time.
military or naval officerOh yeah . I was into Radiohead's "Everything in its right place" and listened to "Kid A" a lot. I like "Takk" by Sigur Ros. Until then, I had listened to a wide range of Japanese music, but I was surprised at how challenging Western music was! I was surprised at how challenging Western music was. . I started listening to Western music from there, and at first I mainly liked dance-rock.
Phoenix or Tudor?
military or naval officerA little before that . Rapture, Franz Ferdinand, Fratellis, The Music ,! . I liked those, so the first festival I went to was Electraglide. I saw a video of Chris Cunningham there, and it was just outrageous.
Please elaborate as much as you can talk about (laughs).
military or naval officerThere was an atmosphere of "It's Elegra, so everything is OK!" It really was the ultimate in eroticism, grotesqueness, and art. It was like the VJ had done everything he wanted to do without any restrictions. It was shocking. I was 18 years old and it was the first time I went to a live performance at night. I was 18 years old when I went to my first night concert, and when I saw that, I thought it might be a little too much for me. I thought it might be better to see it after all... and then I was strangely hooked. I was like, "He's a pervert...! (laughs).
He said he woke up from that.
military or naval officerThat opened my eyes to music, and the first time I went to Fuji Rock was with the members of that time. We arrived on the morning of the eve of the festival, set up our tents, attended the eve of the festival, and so on, a full course of Fuji Rock, which we have done every year since then until this year. . I even went to eat at "Nagai Shokudo" on the way home (laughs).
You are not staying at a hotel, are you?
military or naval officerYes, I've always been in a tent. Anyway, the memory of how much fun it was to stay in a tent has remained unchanged since the beginning, and it is probably the strongest impression I have of Fuji Rock. If it were any other festival, I would go if the artists were good, but I want to go to Fuji Rock because it is Fuji Rock.
The desire to camp, the music, the friends, the drinks, the rumbling, it's all packed in already.
What are your reasons for thinking so?
military or naval officerThe people at Fuji are very peaceful. If I was carrying a tent by myself, they would help me. Also, there are so many different ways to enjoy the festival. You can do yoga, go to the river, or just hang out in your tent, or if you're a "Parisian," you can hang out all night long.
Fuji Rock is just so wide and deep.
military or naval officer. yes, there are still some areas I have never been to. This time I brought my nice speakers and my Helinox, and we did it with drinks, relaxing in the tent listening to music and taking in the scenery... and it was great. I had the desire to camp, the music, friends, drinks, and a place to hang out, and it was already packed with everything. The hurdle to participate is high, so only people who really like music come. I think those people create the atmosphere of Fuji Rock.
. a journey through the chaos of the soul , a kind of sensation.
It's not worth the money or the effort, unless you are a person who estimates the value of music at a high level. On the other hand, it is a great environment for music lovers.
military or naval officerHey . I don't mind club music, but I'm not good at clubs, and I have a hard time dealing with people picking on me because they want to listen to music. But with Fuji, I like the fact that I can act alone and not be approached at all (laughs). This time, when I watched Bonobo, I drank all the alcohol I had and was in a very good mood. It's not a singing thing , but I really like to be intoxicated by the sound and imagine it.
It takes talent and effort on the part of the listener, too.
military or naval officer. maybe it is. How do you put your feelings into music? . I think it's fun to be imaginative and to be immersed.
Were there any other artists that impressed you?
military or naval officerMy friends have been telling me for a long time that they absolutely love The XX, and I've seen it several times, but there are moments when I feel the temperature difference with my enthusiastic friends... (laughs). This is really strange for me! I wonder why? . This time again, I saw off my friends who were going to the front and sat in the back and watched it slowly.
What is the best act?
military or naval officerIn terms of how well it matched the environment, I think Rye was good. The lights were dimmed, and it matched well with Haven at night . Aphex Twin was also very good, as I thought.
Where does one determine how good or bad a live performance is? Of course there are many factors.
military or naval officerI guess it depends on your state of mind at the time. I think there are all kinds of emotions. Just the other day when I saw Cigarros, I felt a sense of salvation, or detoxification, or a journey through the chaos of my soul (laughs). I could see the images as if they were running through my veins, and I felt as if I was going deep inside. . it was the first time for me. . the PA and the environment are also very important.
As soon as I stopped wearing glasses , suddenly a boy confessed to me.
Takei, I think you are looking into your own inner realm, has this always been the case?
military or naval officerEver since kindergarten, he has been staring at a point in the air when everyone else is eating lunch. . I heard that he was told to do so (laughs). . or wow at the moon, or play in the shadows at night. I think he was a mysterious child.
What about when you were in middle and high school?
military or naval officerWhen I started middle school, I was the girl with glasses. I was in a position where I wasn't flashy, but I got along with everyone, and no one disliked me or anything, but one day a boy in class was talking about love, and I had hella ears, so I heard him say, "First of all, there's no Takesue..." ... I was that kind of girl (laughs).
That's a lot to take in at such a sensitive time... (laughs).
military or naval officerI was in the ping-pong club at the time , and I thought, well, it can't be helped. I was also called "Tama-chan" by complete strangers. I was teased a lot (laughs). But you know, as soon as I stopped wearing glasses, a boy suddenly confessed his feelings for me.
. just like a shoujo manga.
military or naval officerBut, you know, that made me so sick. I had just taken off my glasses and nothing had changed about me , so why? Why? From there, I started to think about various things. I started to think about things, like getting along with people in the world of online games where you can't see their faces. I thought about life. So, in a way, it is very strange that I am a model now.
There were so many people at the campsite that it seemed as if everyone was "keening" underfoot.
Now that you are in the public eye, you must be very proud of your job. How was Keane?
military or naval officerI've been wearing "Keens" for a while, but the Pyrenees are the best. The limited edition colors are cute and easy to match. I tend to wear blue at festivals, so they were really easy to use.
You gave us the video of the Pyrenees, which is a water-repellent Pyrenees.
military or naval officerYes, it was! The first day they really did repel the rain perfectly, and the second day they didn't come soaking through. I wore the unique ones on the way there and on the way back, and they were comfortable, and on the way back we stopped at a waterfall, and I thought at the time that it would be nice to be able to take them off easily.
I think it fits very well on my feet in the outdoor scene.
military or naval officerThere were so many people at the campsite that I thought everyone was "keen" underfoot. Unique things everywhere!
Did you meet with friends over there?
military or naval officerThis year, it was as if Tokyo had come straight to Fuji Rock (laughs). But you see people you meet, you don't see people you don't meet, and if you don't like the same artists, you don't run into them very often.
. yes, it is. Fuji Rock is quite difficult to know how to see, meet , and move.
military or naval officerIt would be nice to be able to act alone, see artists together if there are artists to see, and get together in a flash when it's time to get together. In the case of Fuji. The members I went with this time had a similar way of thinking. It was very easy to work together.
Will you continue to attend Fuji Rock?
military or naval officerI'll be there next year and the year after. I wonder if I get married or something . I wonder if we can't go if we have children or something. Maybe I'll bring my kids and we'll all go together. I'm sure KEEN will be there for me again.
