MONO NO AWARE
The group consists of Shukei Tamaki and Seijun Kato from Hachijojima Island, along with their classmates Ayako Takeda and Yutaka Yanagisawa, who met in college. performed at FUJI ROCK FESTIVAL'16 "ROOKIE A GO-GO" In 2017, they were the top batsmen on the third day of RED MARQUEE.

I'm singing about a phenomenon like this, where people are so close to each other, but they talk to all the social networking sites.

How was the Red Marquee, first thing in the morning?

preciousI was sleepy.

Kato.. the beginning of "me to me" was very pleasant.

I thought "me to me" didn't sound like the first song, but I thought it was linked to the phenomenon of "taking pictures of live performances and posting them on social media". Was that your intention?

preciousIt's ... it's not there (laughs).

Kato. But that idea is very interesting.

preciousThat's what I'm going to do starting today. The reason why I started with that song is because I know everyone is probably sleepy, and I thought it would be best to start with a relaxed "me to me" instead of a fast tempo.

1010_fujirock_mononoaware_6

Once again, can you tell us about the song "me to me"?

preciousIf I may say so, like you said earlier ... social networking ... umm....

1030_001676110015

You don't have to try to say something nice (laughs).

preciousSorry, I couldn't think of anything (laughs). The song "me to me" is about the phenomenon of being on a bus, or on a train, or when you are in such close proximity to people, but somehow you talk to all the social networking sites.

What do you think about the videos and photos of yourselves on social networking sites?

preciousIf we don't sell well, we won't be able to stay here, so we are lucky if someone sees our live performances on social networking sites and followers increase. I don't have any resistance.

willow-leaf arrowheadIt's nice to see you on social media.

preciousI also check the outside sound in the egosa.

Do you check for outside noise at Egosa?

preciousI was surprised to hear it like this in the video taken by a customer ," he said! . Sometimes, I confirm it with a video taken by a client. I think, "Oh, it was surprisingly well-balanced!

Kato. But maybe I didn't like it when I was watching as a guest. Everyone has their own way of enjoying, but it makes me a little sad to see people taking videos while they are there to hear the live sound. . I think it's more fun to share a live performance with people you don't know on site.

precious. Perhaps the way to enjoy a live concert is changing from enjoying it with the whole body on the spot to saving it and reviewing it later.

1030_001676110020

. People will come to you if you succeed, and they will leave if you fail.

Was there anything special about performing at Fuji Rock?

willow-leaf arrowheadI'm quite an ego-seeker, but I found that people I had never seen before were tweeting about it. I was surprised to see that so many people were watching the show.

1010_fujirock_mononoaware_4

preciousIt was interesting to ego-search on Twitter and see what other places we were going around on our route. Some people only play Japanese music, but they go to Ausgele after seeing us and DYGL! . . So there is a possibility that people who like Western music could have seen the show.

MONO NO AWARE" is a word that expresses change itself, in other words, the impermanence of all things.

preciousI love the story "Du Zi Chun" by Ryunosuke Akutagawa. People come to us when we succeed, and they leave us when we fail. . So, I am lucky to be here now, and in a sense, it may be a temporary thing.

1010_fujirock_mononoaware_8

Do you have any common consciousness as a band?

preciousIn many ways, we share a sense of balance within the band. It is something that is only possible when there are people who see it. We share a sense of "it's no good if we go any further".

How did you spend your time at Fuji Rock?

preciousAs I mentioned during the MC, last year I encountered a circle mosh at the Crystal Palace. I was caught in it with one of my sandals off, and when I looked impatiently at the center of the mosh, my sandal had fallen off.

Kato.. I went to see if there would be another one this year , but it didn't happen.

bamboo swordShu Kei (Tamaki) would say, "It's raining, so take this! and he hands over his wallet, cell phone, and everything else and goes away.

preciousThis time, I forgot my kappa . . my luggage is only what can get wet.... . but I don't have anything. . I didn't have any money, and when I got thirsty, I drank the rain.

1010_fujirock_mononoaware_9

Kato.I was really drinking the rain. I kept looking up and opening my mouth when I was watching Ouga Youas Hall .

precious. that was because the auger was cool. I thought, "I don't care if I get wet anymore or whatever.

KEEN_01001676120012

Kato.. in retrospect, maybe there were hardly ever four of us.

bamboo swordMaybe only the first time? But I saw The XX , and Buckhorn was with them.

preciousI was doing "Cobalt Blue" at Buckhorn! . and I went to the front at a great speed. Two guys I didn't know and I was like, "Oh, wow! I was so excited.
Seijun (Kato), you were lifted up. I wondered about that kind of excitement. I thought, "It doesn't matter if it's not a live concert or not. But at that time, there were Buckhorns there, and I felt an unusual love for Buckhorns from the people gathered there.

KEEN_MONO001676120003

. It is the very best part of a live concert.

Kato.Yes, it is!

preciousSo, I was a little goofy about it. I had taken it critically, but now I'm rethinking it. Yutaka (Yanagisawa) was watching the live concert as if he was training by himself.

willow-leaf arrowheadI didn't calculate the location, the time, or the energy, but just went around as soon as I was done! I just went around like that.

preciousWhen we had dinner together, he moved right away. While I was still sipping spaghetti. . Yutaka is stoic, isn't he? He carries around two drum practice pads, one in the dressing room and the other in the passenger seat, which he starts tapping out when he is waiting at a traffic light.

I feel that the individuality of each band member balances it out nicely. I cried a little when I heard "I think I know" (laughs). . at my desk.

Kato.Really?

1010_fujirock_mononoaware_13

. you can't go beyond the realm of "I intend" no matter how far you go in understanding people. We cannot show each other what is in our heads. . So, how strongly and with how much precision do we believe? This song depicts the essence of the relationship between people.

preciousThank you . I wrote "I Know What I'm Doing" based on various scenes I saw with my girlfriend at the time. It's as if the song brings back memories of the place, and the scenes come to mind. So, the song is like a photo album. . . well, talking about this makes me sad and I feel like crying (laughs). You are right, you can't completely understand, can you?

1010_fujirock_mononoaware_14_

How do you usually write lyrics?

preciousThe lyrics, the music, and everyone's performance parts are created at the same time. About half of the album was done that way. For the other half, I started humming the lyrics, and then applied the lyrics to the way they sounded at the time. . So, for the first half, I would start with words that I thought were good at the moment. . The other half, I might be thinking a little bit before writing. I can't remember which song or how (laughs).

1030_001676120019

I decided to write a song for my mother, converting it into a love song.

You play with words, with sound, with meaning, and with visuals. . but there are also abrupt phrases like two-step mature curry (laughs).

Kato.I didn't put that on the lyric card (laughs).

preciousMusic needs to be stimulating, and something like a comic band that ordinary bands don't say attracts attention, doesn't it? Since I am a joker by nature, I am too embarrassed to say a definitive line in a definitive manner. In that sense, it is a two-step curry. But there is a reason why I included that phrase.

1010_fujirock_mononoaware_16
1010_fujirock_mononoaware_17
1010_fujirock_mononoaware_18

Please tell us.

precious. it's... what was it....

all of us(Laughter)

precious. I wrote the lyrics to that one because I wanted to write a song about being thankful for food. The story went on to say that the rice my girlfriend made for me was warm, and as a result, this was a retort-packed curry! But Nidan-ripened curry is just curry roux. It's not a retort. I realized that, but I was getting to the point where I couldn't turn back now, so I decided, oh well. . Then I started putting in words like "Marumiya" and "Cook Do," like a puzzle.

KEEN_MONO001676120023

How was the song "Bougainvillea" written?

preciousMy mother loved bougainvillea , and we had a lot of bougainvillea in the house. . I decided to write a song for my mother, converting it into a love song.

Kato.My mother liked it too.

preciousIt reminds me of the island scenery and such, like, I've moved here (to the city), but it reminds me of it.

KEEN_MONO001676120004

There is a novel by Ryu Murakami called Coin Locker Babies, which is about twins abandoned in a coin locker, wrapped in bougainvillea flowers. So, for the abandoned child, the bougainvillea is the very memory of his mother.

preciousThat is it .

all of us(Laughter)

preciousI have only read "Blue as close to transparent as possible" and "At the Airport" by Ryu Murakami , so I will read them.

Kato.I'm very curious.

It was a jumpy thing to have all the different guitarists get together and do it instead.

Did you interact with other bands during the Fuji Rock Festival?

preciousYes ........ I talked to Yogi and Nebayan....

Kato.I don't have many friends.

bamboo swordAh, I met Thundercat at the service area.

1010_fujirock_mononoaware_21

Thundercat and friends (laughs).

preciousYes . I shared his sense of humor. . I don't really understand it, though. Also, Ayato, the guitarist and vocalist of Tempalay, was injured and could not play guitar this time. It was kind of ... jumpy to have various guitarists gather to play in his place, and I'm not good at that kind of stinky stuff, but ... I honestly thought it was a good idea.

1010_fujirock_mononoaware_22

. you broke your finger on the eve of the festival.

precious. yes. The guitarists from the other bands were doing one song each instead. They were all indie bands, but there was a feeling of "They're here! (laughs).

bamboo swordThat was good, wasn't it (laughs)?

preciousIf you like the indie scene , oh! It's the guy from Domico! I guess that's what I was thinking.

1010_fujirock_mononoaware_23

That's very passionate. Do you have a sense that you are trying to make the band scene more exciting in that way?

preciousThat's not really true. I am envious, but I think there are some conflicting feelings. We enjoy what we do, and the number of people who listen to us has been increasing. I think it is better for us to do things at our own pace.

001676070022

After all, you can't have any fun at all just because you're worried about your feet.

How did you like the Keen shoes?

bamboo swordI got shoe sores from another pair of shoes , but the Keens didn't rub at all.

Kato.I had no problem with the Buckhorn mosh at all. I spent the whole time wearing them.

. it's perfect for festivals because it's put out as a tool to play with rather than as a fashion item.

willow-leaf arrowheadIt was a great environment because it was Fuji Rock, and it really suited the environment. It was great.

1010_fujirock_mononoaware_20

The green stage was a mess , was it ok?

Kato.The muddy water smelled outrageous.

preciousBut I didn't mind because I could wash my feet and avoid the mud puddles, so there was plenty of space and I was able to get to the front. . I guess you can have a lot of fun just by being careful where you step.

Kato.You've been saved.

bamboo swordThank God.
