The exhilaration shared through running.
The running team, formed specifically for the event, donned “Wild Tea” apparel and headed to the Nishi-Shinjuku area, lined with skyscrapers. Their progress was broadcast in real time on screens at the venue, allowing participants who weren’t running to enjoy watching the runners’ spirited performance as if they were there in person, drinks in hand.
We ran about 5 kilometers through the Nishi-Shinjuku area and crossed the finish line. Great job, everyone! So, let’s raise a glass to celebrate. Spontaneous applause broke out from the crowd, and the distance between the participants quickly melted away.
Here, the line between “running” and “not running” has no meaning. Simply by sharing the same time and space, running culture takes on a more relatable and accessible quality. It was a scene that truly embodied the spirit of an event where “both runners and non-runners can enjoy themselves.”
