— What is the theme of the styling?
Kudo:The theme is pop Americana! I used lots of bright, pop colors—like red and blue—and incorporated some shorts with a pop vibe. Also, the outfit I wore in the music video for “Pop Music”—my favorite song by Juice=Juice—was a pair of checkered shorts. All of that adds up to a pop Americana look!
— I never would have guessed it was inspired by “Pop Music”! You also sang it as a solo during the Budokan concert last November (“Juice=Juice Concert 2025 Queen of Hearts Special Flush”), didn’t you? That “Ha!” at the beginning—which was different from usual—really stood out.
Kudo:(Thinking back to how I spoke that day) “Ha!” right? (laughs). That was a “Ha!” I came up with at the last minute right before the live performance—I intentionally went for a cute vibe with it!
— I was sure your voice had cracked because you were so excited, so I underestimated you. Getting back to the topic at hand, you picked out these shorts pretty quickly, didn’t you? I was actually surprised by that.
Kudo:This was totally love at first sight. If I had to describe my personality in one word, it would be “positively stubborn.” I’m just really stubborn, and once I fall for something, there’s no changing my mind. That’s true of “Pop Music,” and I was also drawn to the novelty of the blue check pattern—the moment I saw it, I decided right then and there that I was going to use it.
— That checkered pattern looked like it would be tricky to pull off, but she wore it beautifully.
Kudo:I chose my outfit to match the color of the check pattern, but the red and blue printed T-shirt I wore underneath really helped balance out the whole look. It’s definitely a key piece for today’s outfit. I was also happy to try layering a denim vest, which is something I don’t usually go for.
— It’s impressive that you even matched the color of your socks.
Kudo:At first, I thought I should probably go with plain socks, but then I found a pair in the perfect color and thought, “These are so cute!” The socks are one of the highlights of my outfit today! I used to feel a bit insecure about putting outfits together, but at some point, I picked up a trick: if I pick a color from just one item, the whole look is guaranteed to come together (lol). I really stuck to that approach with this outfit. Since it’s an Americana look, I even incorporated the colors of the American flag!
— That’s impressive. Were there any other aspects you paid special attention to besides the color scheme?
Kudo:If the overall look is too baggy, it can make you look like you’re “just wearing clothes,” so tuck in your T-shirt and cinch your waist with a belt to define your silhouette. For your feet, pair snug socks with voluminous boots. The key is to create contrast in your silhouette at strategic points.
— So, to wrap things up, what did you learn today?
Kudo:There are plenty of ways to do it, but this look involves layering a vest over a jacket—one that’s fun to wear on its own. I tried it for the first time today and it worked out great, so I’d like to keep experimenting with this style. Also, the balance between the shorts and boots was absolutely adorable, so I’d love to incorporate that into my outfits more often!
