My Best Sneakers for 2019

Five creators selected. my best sneakers for 2019.

The sneaker market continues to expand to the point where it is difficult to grasp the overall picture of the scene, with top maisons as well as sports manufacturers participating in the market. So, from what perspective did creators active in the fashion and sneaker industries choose which models they actually wore? We asked five well-informed people who love sneakers to name the three pairs they really wore this year, and through their honest opinions, we will explore the current state of the sneaker market.

Iconic items are shunned. We are attracted to things that are difficult to recognize at a glance.

"As a big sneaker enthusiast from long ago, I don't want to say, 'I haven't found any sneakers I want lately, ....... I always keep my antenna up, greedily gather information, and keep looking for good sneakers. What I think when I look at the sneaker scene these days is that only the catchy ones are popular. The most popular sneakers are the ones with brand logos and coloring that are easy to recognize at a glance. But I, on the other hand, am attracted to sneakers that are hard to recognize at a glance. When I look back at the sneakers I wore most often this year, I find that they were all hard to recognize at first glance.

New Balance_FRESH FOAM HIERRO

I sometimes run in the hills behind my house when I walk my dog. In such cases, trail running shoes are in better shape than running or hiking shoes. But I'm not a serious runner, so I don't want to wear yellow or yellow-green, which are the usual colors for this kind of shoes. In the midst of all this, I found these "New Balance" shoes. This color is not available in Japan. I really wanted a pair, so when I went to New Zealand, I looked around for a store and finally found them at a serious running store.

NIKE SB×FORTY PERCENTS AGAINST RIGHTS_DUNK HI

The design was created by TET-san (Toru Nishiyama of WTAPS), a designer I've always been curious about. The base is a Dunk, but the shoe tongue is arranged to Jordan 6, the Swoosh to Jordan 5, and the toe design to Jordan 1 specifications. At first glance, it's hard to tell, and in a way, it's plain. But I personally think that's what makes it so irresistible."

NIKE_AIR JORDAN 1

In the sense that it's good to be obscure, so is this one. At first glance, it looks like a regular Jordan 1, but the black part is decorated with a faux pony. The color scheme is also my favorite, nothing fancy black and white, rather than the iconic black and red or white and black and red."
