PROFILE

Yonosuke Kikuchi
stylist

Born in Kanagawa , 1979. Studied under stylist Takashi Kumagai, and became independent in 2004. Since then, he has worked on styling for men's fashion magazines, advertisements, and celebrities. He also works as the creative director of the kids' brand "SMOOTHY.

What kind of image did you have of " Champion " in the past?

I remember wearing a lot of Champion sweatshirts and sweatpants when I was a teenager. I used to wear oversized college sweatshirts and sweatpants with coveralls and leather jackets.

Compared to back then, you are now exposed to a variety of clothes and styles on a daily basis as a stylist. Also, what is your impression of the new "Champion Black Edition" collection?

Champion is a brand that cannot be missed when it comes to creating a so-called "American casual" style, isn't it? However, I have to admit that I have stopped thinking about Champion's "non-techiness" as it was back in the day. In that sense, I look at "Champion Black Edition" with a very fresh feeling. These days, we often see long-established brands rebranding themselves and becoming more sophisticated, shedding their previous image. If the athletic wear aspect of "Champion" can be brought closer to the fashion world, including such a timelessness, we will be able to recognize the quality of the product and its image will become much closer to the fashion world.

Do you notice anything when you actually try it on?

I like my coat and pants to have a good amount of stretch. On the day of the shoot, I will be moving anyway, so it should be as stress-free as possible. . Also, as I am usually a stylist, I don't want to worry about my own coordination. Therefore, I am happy to have items that I can wear with this top and bottom to complete my look in one shot. And if the design is also excellent, that's great, isn't it? I personally like "Off Black," but I think it's also nice that the collection is concentrated on three colors that can be used as a base for coordination, making it easy to think about.

Are there any other items that caught your attention?

For the spring/summer 2020 season, I would like to propose a coat and shorts style, and I saw just such a coordination in the "Champion Black Edition" look, so I thought it would be a good idea. . For the feet, I would like to wear boots with material socks.
