You were born in San Francisco, came to Japan alone when you were 18 years old, and started modeling after that. Did your Japanese parents influence you to come to Japan in the first place?
Budding:Yes, my parents are Japanese, but I was not particularly interested in Japan because I could not speak Japanese and had not been exposed to Japanese culture. ...... . I just wanted to go abroad and experience various things freely. . At that time, the most familiar option was Japan. I came to Japan with no real plan and just went along with it lightly, so when I think about it now, I was really young (laughs). (laughs) . I also started modeling, and just kind of went with the flow. The friends I made at university in Japan happened to be fashion-related girls. They introduced me to an agency, and that was my direct start. . Before I came to Japan, I never dreamed of becoming a model.

Have things changed since you started modeling?
Budding:. Actually, when I was in San Francisco, I was not interested in clothes at all. Over there, everyone had a very casual style, and I had no sense of being fashionable. . It was definitely when I started modeling for fashion magazines that I started to enjoy clothes. Also, I think it was through modeling that I was able to start my music career (as a member of the music unit "MIRRROR" with Takumi, who is from the U.S.).

How did your musical career begin?
Budding:I have been listening to rap and R&B music since I was 8 years old, but there were not many people around me who listened to the same music. Takumi and I have always been good friends, and he had been doing music for a long time before we met, but we both had the same taste in music, and we always thought that we would be able to work together someday, even if we never said it. The reason why we moved our base to LA is because we both dreamed of playing music in our hometown in the U.S., and the American music culture is closer to our hearts. But there is also something interesting about the Tokyo music scene, and that is the natural crossover between fashion and music.
What kind of clothes do you usually wear?
Budding:. I often wear Japanese brands. Lately, I sometimes wear patterned or rather flashy clothes, but I prefer simple clothes with some thoughtful details.

What is your impression of "UNIQLO YOU"?
Budding:. This is one of my favorite lines among the UNIQLO lines. The colors are beautiful and cute. Often, when I see a friend wearing something cute, I ask her what brand it is and she tells me it's from "UNIQLO U. " The prices are surprisingly low, but they don't look like that at all. The prices are surprisingly low, but they don't look like that at all. They have a good balance of everyday wear that is fashionable and has a certain individuality. The knit polo shirt I wore today looks simple, but the collar and sleeve ribs are subtly designed. I like that.
