Born in Seoul , raised in Tokyo , he started his career as a DJ in 2012. . He has performed at clubs and large festivals around the world, especially in Asia. . He is also active in a wide range of activities, including the launch of "THE LINK," a project that connects Japan and Korea, and as an MC for a radio show.
YonYon, your activities overseas are also prominent.
YonYon:That may be part of it. However, as far as Korean culture is concerned, it was not until I came to Japan that I began to come into contact with it in earnest.
Why is that?
YonYon:I came to Japan when I was in elementary school, and while I was in Japan, I attended a Korean-affiliated integrated junior and senior high school. Since the school had only Korean students, the language used in the school was Korean, and the songs sung at karaoke with my friends were K-POP. I was exposed to a lot of information about Korea through this experience.
. Next, regarding your songwriting, YonYon's method is unique, isn't it?
YonYon:Yes, I do. I usually DJ a lot, but I produce music on a project basis, and recently I have been asked to do guest appearances more and more. I have a lot of connections with clubs and artists because I used to organize and support events as a promoter. . My basic production style is to collaborate with multiple artists. THE LINK," a project that connects artists from Japan and Korea to produce music, is a prime example of this.
YonYon's identity seems to be to "connect" with others.
YonYon:When I was cleaning out my house at the end of last year, I found a diary from junior high school in which I had written a poem saying that I wanted to be a bridge between Japan and Korea. I had completely forgotten that I had written such a thing, but subconsciously, that feeling may be the driving force behind my current activities.
So that's how you met Toyameg, who did the illustrations for the shirts.
YonYon:I first heard of her when I was DJing in Fukuoka about a year and a half ago. She was not there, but I heard something about an artist named Toyameg. Around the same time, another friend told me, "There is an artist called Toyameg, and I think you should work with him, Yong-chan. I returned to Tokyo without meeting her at that time, but later, when I was planning "Unknown," an event that brought together artists from Fukuoka and Oita, I asked her to design a poster for the event. I had never met her before, so I contacted her through SNS.
So that's where you finally met him.
YonYon:No, I haven't been able to meet her yet (laughs). I was going to have her DJ at that event as well, but she couldn't come on short notice because of her schedule. ...... After that, I went to Fukuoka several times and finally met her, and we started to see each other unexpectedly every time I went there. . I wonder if it was some kind of karma.
What was your impression of Toyameg when you finally met him?
YonYon:. He was just so personable. . I had never met him before, but he was very kind and listened to me when I first contacted him. . I wanted to return the favor in some way.
YonYon, what do you think is the appeal of Toyameg's paintings?
YonYon:It is rare to find a woman who is rooted in the street , yet paints pop pictures. This is something only meg can do. I hope we can do something together in the future.
