Regular T-shirts have an appeal that cannot be measured by rarity alone.
. It was a very interesting discussion about regular T-shirts. It is quite difficult to find value in something that has no value, but where do you buy these things?
Nakano:I have asked three people, two foreign dealers living in the U.S. and a Japanese dealer, to collect them for me. However, there is no easy-to-understand standard of value for T-shirts in this area, like vintage T-shirts, so it is difficult to communicate with dealers. . There are subtle nuances and taste issues. When I first told the dealer that I wanted a T-shirt like this, he said, "What is this guy talking about? I was like, "What is this guy talking about? (Laughs.) In fact, only about one-tenth of the T-shirts that we get from the dealers are picked.
. When I listen to you, the font typeface, number of editions, printing techniques, etc., are different from the criteria for picking so-called secondhand clothes, aren't they? When did you start to become aware of these factors?
Hatanaka:These two have been making original T-shirts by hand for a long time, so maybe that's where it all started.
izmt:. since I was 19 years old. At that time, silkscreen plates were expensive and I couldn't order them from a print shop, so I started printing them myself. . Then I started to pay attention to the printing plates and so on.
This is an interesting point of view as a standard of value for vintage clothing. Do you think these regular T-shirts will increase in value in the future?
Nakano:Some of them are already starting to add value. For example, even if it is from after 2000, technology company things like Google, amazon, windows, etc. are popular and soaring in price, and it is becoming harder to get things from local dealers in the US. But on the other hand, I think it is difficult to define the value of souvenirs t such as restaurants, because I think it is something that can only be done with a buying sense.
How do you think the customers reacted?
Nakano:We have been displaying these items in our stores for a long time, and people buy them because they are genuinely interesting, not because they are looking at them from our point of view.
Once again, what is the appeal of regular T-shirts?
Hatanaka:I think the charm of regular T-shirts is to enjoy them while imagining your own interpretations and stories, even if they are not the expensive ones we usually carry at "Weber. Besides, valuable things are not necessarily expensive. The T-shirts introduced here are just not in the spotlight yet, and value does not equal price.
Nakano:There are all kinds of designers and idea makers in the world , and that's why there are so many kinds of printers. . Even if they are not famous, there are many cool ones out there. . I feel that the charm that cannot be measured only by rarity is the fun part of choosing regular T-shirts.
izmt:Since you two have said it all, I guess there won't be any more from me (laughs). Regular T-shirts are fun, that's all .
. I was able to notice the appeal of regular T-shirts, which is different from that of vintage T-shirts. By looking at them from a slightly different perspective, you can find new value in them.
