Do you usually wear Converse sneakers?
I have worn a lot of Converse sneakers, including when I worked at Belvergine. The "Chuck Toggle" is a pair that I am very familiar with.
What is your impression of "Chuck Toggle"?
We used to get a lot of "Converse" at "Berberzine," but "Chuck Toggle" was so rare that only a few pairs were brought in each year. Despite this, the model was rather popular among some fans at the time, and even dead stocks sold for 12,800 yen or so. What was interesting to me personally, however, was that even at the time when I was buying American-made shoes as a good thing, this was not the case with "Converse. In fact, the "Chuck Toggle" was a European model that was "ASSEMBLED IN USA," meaning that it was not strictly made in the U.S.A. Today, shoes are made in the U.S.A. or England, so they are not made in the U.S.A. Nowadays, people no longer think that because something is made in the U.S. or England, it is good, right? This pair of shoes pushed me to have a standard of judgment that "what I think is good, that's good, and that's all that matters.
Compared to the "Chuck Toggle" that you were wearing at the time, how do you like this new pair?
Since that time, almost all of them came in red, but I remember that they were only available in leather, I think. So canvas uppers are new to me. In my case, it is important for me to be able to "buy more," so the casual look of canvas is very appealing to me. It also adds a low-tech feel.
The "REACT" cup insole is also a unique feature.
As for comfort, it is by far the most updated version. If they were the originals, I would probably get tired just walking from Shibuya to Daikanyama (laughs).
What is the point of today's coordination?
Since the sneakers are low-tech, the clothes are modern. I paired an oversized pullover shirt with pants by Black Ladder, a Swedish work brand that has been on my mind recently. I thought the messy waist was a modern look.
