What are the roots of designer Yoshiaki Morioka .

. How is it that you are able to continue to create a wide variety of designs? Do ideas come naturally to you? Or are you always on the lookout for new ideas? What do you think is your personality?
Morioka:It's difficult for me to say because I am not aware of it... My old saying was, "I wonder if there is anything interesting going on. Even when I was a vocational student, I would skip classes, go into my favorite store, and agonize over a cup of coffee. Since I am always saying such things, my sense of smell works when I actually come across something that looks interesting.
. You are steeped in the search for interesting things, aren't you? I'm sure adults would be offended...
Morioka:The reason why I became this way is because of my family environment. My family is a kimono tailor that has been in business since 1881, so color comes naturally to me, and I grew up watching the backs of stubborn craftsmen who insisted on hand-sewing. In this special environment with young live-in workers, my parents gave me cardboard boxes instead of toys, and I spent my time doing crafts... . . My father always praised me, saying, "You are a genius at playing.
You grew up in a family of craftsmen.
Morioka:Being from a staunch family, I was sometimes opposed to going to a vocational school, but after I convinced them, they understood. My siblings also have experience working in the apparel industry, and family is a strange thing.

I heard that the cafe "Delight," where I am interviewing you now, is also a place where Mr. Morioka has had many encounters.
Morioka:. exactly, "Delight" is the starting point of my encounter with people. . If I had not skipped class at this store, I would never have entered "M&M. The interior design of this shop was done by "M&M." Not only are the details of each item interesting, but the time spent talking with Masa, the store owner, who knows his stuff, is precious to me. Above all, it is comfortable! I was introduced to all kinds of people.
You attracted your future by continuing to love what you love.
Morioka:I am grateful for that. Masa-san, the owner of the store, scared me a lot at first, but now he is like a kind senior colleague. I recently designed the store card and goods for "Delight," and I would be happy to return the favor in the future.
