SIDE-B The PARCO MUSEUM is a place where visitors can get in touch with their sensibilities.

How did you get involved with the brand?
Kan:I originally worked as a designer, mainly building restaurants and stores selling goods. When I decided I wanted to do something different, I thought a job in fashion, which I loved, would be good. While I was looking for a place to work, I saw a show at Anrealage and was instantly attracted to the brand, so I decided to work here.
You came from a completely different genre of work. When was this?
Kan:I've been designing for a rather long time, and it was last year when I got the interview. I remember it was just on my birthday (laughs).
Since this is your first assignment at the Parco store, what is the customer base like?
Kan:We used to have a lot of inbound customers, but recently we have customers who have liked our brand for a long time, or who come to us through our Instagram.
Are you sure the Instagram is Kan's? I heard a rumor that you have 68,000 followers!
Kan:Yes, I do it as a hobby. Sometimes I get kids who are my fans.

Suga's Instagram account. Posts are categorized by item, showing his meticulousness.
How did you get started?
Kan:It was after I got this job. In my previous job, I refrained from going out in public because I thought it was not appropriate. Now, I freely express what I think is good in my own way.
I see. I saw in your past posts that you have a strong branding.
Kan:I don't do things in a systematic way. Brands sometimes ask me to promote their products, but I basically turn them down.

What do you do during your breaks from work?
Kan:I spend most of my time at Starbucks, but I also take a peek at the PARCO Museum on the 4th floor.
Do you go to art exhibitions on your days off?
Kan:Yes, there are, like going to art museums. Anrealage itself sometimes holds such exhibitions, so I think we are in close proximity to art.
Some of your collections look like art pieces, don't they?
Kan:Also, I have recently been studying English.
Is it because many of your customers are foreigners?
Kan:I wish I could respond to visitors when they come to the store, but it is mostly a hobby. When I was a student, I was a child who never studied at all, just short of a failing grade, but I suddenly thought it would be better if I could speak English.
It's cool that you are studying as an adult. Are you going to school or something?
Kan:I'm on my own, but I use a coaching curriculum called "ProGrid". It's like an English version of Lizap, and it manages my entire schedule. It creates a habit of studying English, so I naturally started to do it. It sounds a bit like an advertisement, but that's not what it is (laughs).

When you hold your hand over the machine, only the bones rise to the surface. Mr. Suga wondered how his face would look when he held up his face to the machine.

Shibuya's vintage clothing store "DAMMIT TOKYO" will also open a store. The "weird room" is full of gimmicks and exhibits past photo and video works.
Do you usually wear vintage clothes?
Kan:I sometimes wear brand-name clothes, but now I mostly wear brand-name clothes. When I was younger, I was more particular about what I wanted to wear, like "this has to be this" or "anything else is tacky," but as I've gotten older, I don't mind wearing whatever I want.
I have been through a lot in my life. Do you have any particular style of nails?

Kan:This is actually my own work. I used to have them done at a store, but they closed in Corona, so now I do them myself. I put gel on a toothpick and do it with a toothpick.
I'm sure you'll be able to find out more. There are a few more things I'm curious about, but I guess I'll have to wait until I actually go to the store and meet Mr. Suga.

ANREALAGE
A REAL - everyday, UN REAL - extraordinary, and AGE - era. We look at the unrealistic twists and turns of everyday life and extract the starting point of design from trivial details that might otherwise be overlooked.
