Banana Watches and five styles that question the state of the modern wristwatch.

Tissot has created a variety of timepieces that have led the times, from dress watches to divers' watches and even tactile watches with touch-sensors. One of the most representative models is the "Tissot Heritage Banana," or "Banana Watch. More than 100 years have passed since its birth, but the catchy name and the curved, rectangular shape are still the same. It has been loved as the face of the brand for many years. For this issue, we asked the press from five select stores to talk about the appeal of this watch and show us how they coordinate their watches. What is the demand for analog watches amid the evolution of smartphones? We also asked them to think about the modern wristwatch, using the "banana watch" as a starting point.

Koji Fukumoto / Ron Herman

Ms. Fukumoto's style includes a military jacket by Double Taps, a T-shirt by Ron Herman, denim by Mythinks, and sneakers by Nike. The "Banana Watch" has a blue dial and a Milanese bracelet.

Ron Herman is a specialty store that brings the California lifestyle to Japan. Mr. Koji Fukumoto is the press representative here. A father of two, his hobbies include surfing and bass fishing. While raising his children on the weekends, he also finds time to go to the ocean or a lake when he can. Influenced by his father, fishing has been one of his hobbies since he was a small child, and he feels that the fishing scene is particularly exciting these days. Mr. Fukumoto showed us a solid all-black outfit accented with a "banana watch.

What kind of watches do you usually wear?

Fukumoto: I use a smartwatch. I never used to wear a watch, but since it can be linked to my smartphone, I started wearing it for practicality. It's not that I'm not interested in it, but I wanted to keep myself light. . That's why I almost never wear accessories.

Fukumoto-san, you also play sports, don't you?

Fukumoto: Yes, that's right. I do a lot of surfing and bass fishing , so that's one of the reasons I haven't worn a watch or accessories.

Ms. Fukumoto, from your point of view, how do you like the "banana watch"?

Fukumoto: The design is very simple and attractive. This Milanese bracelet is also a nice touch. I have always liked simple things, and I don't like things that are too ornate. Like clothes, I think simple things have the strength to be worn indefinitely, regardless of the season. That is why I would like to choose such a watch as well.

Also, I thought the curved case of the "Banana Watch" was amazing. It fits my wrist and is very easy to wear. Compared to the smartwatches I usually wear, it looks completely different.

What kind of image do you have of the Tissot brand?

Fukumoto: I have a strong impression of the NBA. When I watched an NBA game on TV, I was surprised to see the Tissot brand name on the time board above the goal ring and thought, "They are doing something like this.

I see. Tissot is the official timekeeper of the NBA.

Fukumoto: It is kind of nice and interesting to see a brand with a long history show a new aspect in that way.

What did you keep in mind when coordinating?

Fukumoto: As I mentioned earlier, I like simple clothes, so I have never been conscious of this. It goes well with a casual outfit like a military jacket and denim, and I think this watch stands out precisely because of that casual style.

. The silver watch shines in the all-black outfit.

Fukumoto: . Maybe so. All-black tends to be heavy, but I try to reduce this by adding bright colors somewhere. In my case, I often add such elements with socks and shoes, and in this case, the watch played that role.
