PROFILE

Born in 1980, he joined BEAMS in 2005 and is currently the chief buyer of men's casual wear. He likes American traditional Ivy style, and American casual styling is also his specialty. On his days off, he likes to relax at home.
Rekindling of the "Shibu-Kaje" style, which has left its mark on the history of Japanese fashion.
What are the most popular items at BEAMS this year compared to last year?
Shibasaki:It may not be limited to just our house, but I feel that we are becoming more basic. Simply put, plain items . Standard patterns are also popular. . items such as sweatshirts and denim. . Colors, too, standard items are popular.
. So that's the trend for this spring.
Shibasaki:I went around the exhibition, mainly to domestic brands, and looked at this season's new items, and got the impression that there were many sweatshirts and denim items. Sweatshirts were available as a set-up, and denim was available in natural colors other than indigo. Anyway, I have an image of simplicity.

What other trends do you see?
Shibasaki:I am concerned about the whirlwind of regular vintage clothing from the 90s, especially among the younger generation. Like me, people in their 30s and 40s have gone through the American casual boom of the 90s, so there is a sense of nostalgia and security, and in the end, I think it is a trend that encompasses all generations.
. It seems that the Corona Disaster is not the reason why they are cheap to sell and expensive to sell.
Shibasaki:Even with this Corona disaster, I hear that high brands are still selling and luxury cars are selling as well. If the functions and concept are communicated well, I think they can compete in any price range. If you think that if you make something of this quality at this price, it will sell, you will not be able to sell as well as before. Brands that have thought through precisely who they are targeting and what added value they want to provide to the buyer have led to good results.

A: These original items are selling well at BEAMS right now, aren't they?
Shibasaki:This season's theme is American casual from the late 80s to the 90s. In short, it is "Shibu-Kaje". . We focus on the style of the period when American casual was at its height in Japan. It was worn by people of good upbringing, and it has a sense of cleanliness and good manners, but it also follows the delinquent side of the style, which is a disguised version of the style. The materials used are good, and the silhouettes are large, since the style is based on modern times. I incorporate the current mood in my clothes.

[Claire] Beams!painted wide chinos, ¥13,200 (BEAMS Harajuku, 03-3470-3947)
. These are the denim pants you mentioned earlier as a trend. . The soft color is refreshing.
Shibasaki:These pants are exactly what I'm in the mood for. The painted finish gives them a used look , but there is something clean about them. Normally, I would have used indigo denim, but as I mentioned earlier, natural colors are in trend, so I used this color.
The loose-fitting silhouette is very modern.
Shibasaki:Yes, it is. The silhouette is slightly thicker and straighter. Just the right thickness for the coming season.

[Claire] Beams!Loose Double Riders Jacket, ¥19,800 (BEAMS Harajuku, 03-3470-3947)
. This is also a rider's jacket made of denim fabric.
Shibasaki:These have a crazy amount of stretch. The hardness of leather has been replaced by the casualness of denim , so you'll be able to coordinate it with a wide range of outfits.
Even those who have never worn a rider's jacket before will find it easy to coordinate.
Shibasaki:. it was six to ten months ago that I was planning the original. Nowadays, denim is in the middle of the fashion trend and can be said to be popular, but at the planning stage, it was an uncertain thing. What is important here, of course, is the trend of foreign brands, but in the end, the most important thing is the mood of the time.

BEAMS] Gradation border crew neck, ¥6,600 (BEAMS Harajuku, 03-3470-3947)
. I guess it's all about feeling, isn't it? . And last but not least, a long T-shirt with a border.
Shibasaki:This border is The 90's , as they say. The thickness of the pitch and the color scheme are the key, and they represent the season. There are a surprisingly large number of types of borders, but they are interesting because they are concentrated and reflect trends.
Indeed, it looks like the 90's!
Shibasaki:Although there are only a limited number of borders from the 90s, we discussed and completed the color scheme and pitch of the borders so that everyone would be able to relate to them.

What was the 90's scene and Shibu-Kajin like?
Shibasaki:There are many senior figures who have led the scene, so I don't have much to say about them (laughs). I personally think that the fashion of the 90s was a time when people freely expressed the culture and genres that emerged from the streets, and what they thought was cool was extracted from these genres. . It was a time of fast-paced crossover of various things. What can I say about ...... . I can't talk about it enough (laughs).
I felt that the 90's were similar to today's era, where diversity is called for and people are communicating their own originality and individuality.
Shibasaki:Indeed, I agree with that. In both fashion and music, there is a fervor in the 20s that reminds us of those days. . In both cases, it was a time when if the world recognized it, it was a win-win situation, even before the agencies and the big names recognized it. Combined with this mood, these items, which reflect the nuances of the 90s, may be selling well.
