Why did the Weekend choose Forty-Seven?

Forty-Seven ('47) is an officially licensed brand of MLB (Major League Baseball). It is loved not only by baseball fans, but also by many people as a fashion item. In fact, the brand has many fans in the fashion industry. As an example, the original caps of the weekend flea market unit "Weekend," formed by Mr. Kaneko of "Reshop," Mr. Oshima of "Herrill," and Mr. Nishino of "NEET," are made of "'47 CLEAN UP" by "forty-seven. We spoke with them about the appeal of "forty-seven," which captivates even genuine clothing lovers, and about its perfection as a vessel that is also compatible with "Weekend.

PROFILE

weekend

A weekend flea market unit consisting of three people in the fashion industry. Members from left to right: Hiroyuki Oshima, designer of "Heril," Keiji Kaneko, conceptor and buyer of "Reshop," and Daishi Nishino, director of "Nishinoya," designer of "Neat" and "Dress.

Weekend caps are forty-seven.

Please tell us again how "Weekend" was formed.

Kaneko:This is an old story that I haven't told recently. NEAT was going to hold a pop-up at a store called "Eureka Factory Heights" in Gifu, and I was asked if I could come along. I had been going to the U.S. with Mr. Nishino for "NEAT USA" and doing some shopping there. It was fun, and we even decided to start a flea market together, but after returning to Japan, things got hectic and talks came to a halt.... Then I heard that Mr. Oshima wanted to have a flea market, and the three of us decided to try it together. That's how "Weekend" started.

You have released a variety of original items. What kind of items did you make at first?

Westfield:We started with the idea of making a uniform since we were going to the trouble, and the first thing we made was a mexican parka (Mexican parka). Like the back of the shirt you are wearing now, some shirts have "WEEKEND" on them and some do not.

Do the three of you have different roles?

Kaneko:Mr. Oshima is a designer, I am a buyer, and Mr. Nishino is a PR and designer, so we can come up with ideas, make things, and communicate.

I understand that "forty-seven" is the only cap that has been the base for all the caps you have made so far.

Westfield:I was very interested in "forty-seven. I liked "forty-seven," and when I saw "forty-seven" being sold at a souvenir shop on a trip to the U.S. with Mr. Kaneko, I knew it was the one.

Mr. Nishino has expressed his love for "forty-seven" to the extent that he is now almost a PR person for the brand (laughs).

Westfield:Mr. Kaneko has one, too. It's cool and I wanted one, but I couldn't afford it.... It's the Lakers logo, but instead of the usual LA shape, it looks like an L with an A inside.

Kaneko:The gold embroidery is rugged and incredibly moccasmic. I love it sometimes.

How about you, Mr. Oshima?

Oshima:The color variety is gradually increasing, and you are wearing this "Weekend" cap.

Mr. Kaneko, you also made original caps for "Reshop," didn't you? Based on this experience, what do you think makes "forty-seven" so special?

Kaneko:Cheap, durable, and easy to wear. These are the three things I would say. The brim doesn't get weird even if you wash it roughly, and it's not too hard. It is well-balanced in many ways. Baseball caps are usually narrowed down to two types, deep or shallow. I have never heard of anyone who doesn't like the shallow "forty-seven" caps, and I can recommend them to anyone. I can recommend it to anyone. The stability of the cap is outstanding.

Have you ever made caps for "Herrill" before?

Oshima:I have made one made in the U.S.A., but for some reason I didn't like the "HERILL" logo on it. But for some reason, I didn't like the "HERILL" logo on it, so I still wear a sample of it without commercializing it (laughs).
