What are your favorite lures and what are the best lures to catch fish?

HOUYHNHNM FISHING CLUB started its activities this month. Our first fishing trip, which we took on with almost no experience, we didn't catch any fish and lost a lot of money. ...... However, our enthusiasm only grew as some members headed off to practice on their own and added new equipment! Now that we have experienced how good it feels to be in touch with nature, the next step is to touch black bass. How can we catch them? Watching YouTube is a good way to learn, but what we really want to hear is what our seniors have to say. So we asked everyone from fishermen in the fashion industry to builders of handmade lures to share their tips on how to catch fish. One of the best parts of fishing is the chance to see some of their favorite lures and the rods and reels they use, and ask them questions about this and that. Everyone had a strong love for fishing, and they talked for a long time, repeatedly going off on tangents!

What do you think is the best way to catch fish?

I guess it's the number of times I go to the water's edge. If you go 5 times a week like I do, you should be able to catch something somewhere (laughs). (Laughs) Well, it is interesting that it is not so easy to catch fish, and it is also interesting to think in my own way. I think it's great that I can now fish with my head, thinking about the weather, wind direction, and terrain, which I didn't think about in the past. It is also important to research match-the-bait (using lures that match the small fish that are preying on them) carefully and to check it after you go.

What do you find interesting about fishing?

You gather gear, prepare at home, and fantasize about fishing. When I go there, I don't catch any fish and wonder what I'm doing ......, but there are so many elements that keep me enthusiastic that I immediately want to go back on the way home. It can bring back a boy's senses, and the machine-like aspects, like the cars, are also interesting.

Raid Japan Dodge

What was the first lure you caught when you were a kid?

Of course, I remember. It was topwater. Because of those memories, I still like topwater fishing. Among them, "Dodge" by Raid Japan is one of my favorites. At first, I bought it because it looked cool, but I often use it when I search for fish because it is very appealing. Above all, I want to fish with cool lures that I like.

DRT Crash 9

Do you have a particular lure selection process?

I make a distinction between when I want to catch fish and when I want to try lures. When I use big baits, I use zero or one, and it feels like a challenge. Right now, I'm challenging myself with this [DRT] "Crash 9. There is something romantic about biting something this big. Now that I have caught a sea bass of around 80 cm, I am aiming for a big black bass next.

Megabass Vision One Ten

What is your favorite memory from this year's fishing trip?

In February, when bass are hard to catch, I made a quick trip to a river that is said to be hard to catch, and within 30 minutes I had a fish. It was a smallmouth bass, 48 centimeters long. I cast the "Vision One Ten" by Megabass a long distance and reeled it in slowly, and I caught it. I tried again another day at the same time of day and caught it again, which was a new discovery.

Wow! Is that the result of several visits?

Yes, I did. I went quite a bit. I was experimenting with different fishing methods. Now that the season has changed, I don't think those fishing methods will work anymore, so I want to fish again with a lot of thought.

What do you get out of fishing or are you influenced by it?

It reminded me how fun it is to experience things, and I want to reflect that in my work. I have started opening a kitchen car in Harajuku called "PELLS FLAVOR CAR," and I hope to convey the joy of outdoor activities, such as fishing.
