FEATURE|Legendary athletic brand is back.

Here, we would like to introduce the masterpieces of "AG Spalding & Bross," which were discussed in the previous interview. The charm of "AG Spalding & Bros." is concentrated in its functional and beautiful designs and details such as boxing glove pockets, ribbed sleeves, and ribbed shoulder yokes. Seeing is believing, so please take a look at these special vintages that are rarely seen!

30'S BOXING GLOVE POCKET PARKA

A double-faced parka with unique pockets, commonly known as boxing glove pockets. The catalog described it as a sideline parka. These pockets not only have a handwarmer function, but also have an attached slit that allows access to the inner lining. Actually, there was a prototype from the 20's with no pockets; the design with pockets was introduced around 1935.

20'S TRAINING SHIRTS

This training wear has a detail called "double V" with V-shaped gussets on the front and back. The unusual feature of this sweatshirt is the use of wool for the raised lining. This is a valuable material that is thought to be an early sweatshirt in the transition from wool to cotton. Another important feature of this sweatshirt is the V-shaped ribs. This is also a design unique to "AG Spalding & Bros.

30 'S FOOTBALL SWEATER

Football training wear made of wool knit. The design has a functional beauty with ribbing at the shoulders to give mobility to the wool fabric, which has little elasticity. The felt on the body and arms was designed to make it easier to catch a slippery oval ball. The same design graced the cover of a catalog from the 30s.

(L) Another interesting feature of "AG Spalding & Bross" is that there are various variations of tags even for the same age group. (M) Elastic ribbing around the shoulders allows for ease of movement, which is necessary for mobility. (Right) Raised patches serve as a non-slip surface.

20-30'S WOOL SWEAT SHIRTS

Woolen sweatshirts were made for high school and college school colors. It is thought that this was replaced by cotton material and the current sweatshirt was created. The features are gussets and ribbing to reinforce the neck, which is also inherited from the cotton sweatshirt. Ribbing is also used on the shoulders to enhance mobility. Some have a school or team name patch on the chest.

The design of the neckline with no difference between the front and back is also reminiscent of the times. (Right) The underarms are joined, which helps to expand the mobility of the shoulder area.

Looking at the archives of the past, we can see that "AG Spalding & Bros." was making cutting-edge sportswear by trial and error with limited materials at that time. The new "AG Spalding & Bross," which will be revived this fall/winter, is expected to touch the heartstrings of not only vintage freaks but also those who love clothes. As the saying goes, "know the old and know the new," unique designs that were created with great effort in the past seem fresh and timeless today. The revival of "AG Spalding & Bros.
