02_Winnebago Chieftain

I finally encountered the "moving house" that I once admired in an American movie.
The original scene of the campervan is different for each person, but I think that there are many people who started with American movies in the 80s.
." "The house is running . . The scene that emerged, even if only for a moment, gave me a strong sense of the richness of America that did not exist in Japan at that time.
. Recently, we have seen them frequently in the most popular foreign drama series. In "The Walking Dead," a camper was used to run over zombies, and in "Breaking Bad," a camper was used as a base for drug production. After all, its unique atmosphere is still the hook for the production, and it is probably the same now as it has always been.

The vehicle measures 852 cm (L) x 245 cm (W) x 315 cm (H) and has a ladder at the rear that allows the driver to climb to the ceiling. In a zombie movie, it is the perfect place to watch.

The entrance to the car. There are steps to make it easy to get in and out of the car.
Among these American campers, the "W" logo is sure to leave an impression on some people. This is the "W" of Winnebago, a top manufacturer in the U.S. founded in 1958. This manufacturer is a little different from the so-called "Toyota" that builds its products from the ground up.
There are a number of companies that have a base vehicle body and then build it to camper specifications, one of which is Winnebago. One of them is Winnebago, which is also called a builder. Winnebago has dealers all over the world and now ships more than 30,000 units a year.
The classic Winnebago I was able to photograph this time is a "Chieftain" model. Even in its home country of the United States, it is rare to find one in good condition. We came across such an ultra-rare species at Neat RV, an authorized Winnebago importer in Chiba Prefecture, Japan.

The iconic logo of "Winnebago" at that time. . The coloring is also reminiscent of the 80's. The "Chieftain" was the iconic model of Winnebago at the time, and was also available in a 33-foot version that was larger than this 27-foot model.
This "Chieftain" was made in 1986 . It was based on a Chevrolet Shisha and was produced by Winnebago. It was a "Class A" model, the highest class at that time, and naturally, the most advanced technology was lavishly poured into it. . exactly the atmosphere of the campers we once admired in movies.
At 27 feet (8.52 m) in length, it is almost the size of a bus. Stepping into the interior of the bus, one is even more surprised. It is so luxurious. The sofa, dining table, and bed in the back are king size. There is a gas stove, a refrigerator, a shower, and a toilet. It is definitely more spacious and comfortable than most single people's rooms.

The interior is luxurious and American style with a lot of wood. The interior-related areas have been renovated by the owner. The sofa and dining table are variable and can be converted into a bed.

. Interior of the car from the rear. The ceiling height is comfortable to stand on with room to spare.

The view from the driver's seat is completely that of a bus.

Shower and indoor. And of course, toilets.
Seeing it in person like this, it is no wonder that road trips in campers are the standard in the United States. It's like moving a whole house. It's like traveling with a whole house, but without the restlessness of a hotel room. The engine has been meticulously maintained by the owner, and you can enjoy the "Hey! Please hang on! I'm begging you!
Incidentally, the "Chieftain" is no longer in the small category in terms of the current state of American campers in the U.S. . The current Winnebago was also on display at NEAT RV, and the large class of Winnebago is as huge as a long-distance bus. Moreover, with the touch of a switch, the body of the vehicle itself expands to the side with a whirlwind motion.
America's affluence , is still frightening.
