Mr. Ichikawa was the first to catch a fish here.
Ichikawa:Mr. Hasegawa taught me many exciting fishing techniques, such as tearing a worm half as small as the first joint of my pinky finger to try it out, or inviting fish while watching the fish finder. I felt that professionals are also professionals in the way they entertain us.

Ikemoto:The moment I caught it, I screamed (laughs). At first I thought it might have been a root hook. (Laughs). At first I thought it might have been a root snag, but I could feel the bio-signs coming from the line. I was told to be conscious of moving the sinker rather than moving the worm around, and that's how I caught it. I am glad I was able to experience the feeling of being able to catch fish!
Hiramoto-san and Shimago-san had a double hit! Mr. Hiramoto even got another hit!
Hiramoto:I tried throwing a bigger lure but it didn't bite, so I used a 3-inch worm. The bottom here is rocky and the water is clear. I thought it was similar to my local home lake, Kawaguchi Lake. It's a big lake, so it's interesting that the water quality and structure are totally different from one spot to another.
The hits are still coming in. One after another, black bass showed up. And Ishii also had a move.
Ishii:We moved here, changed to a different trick, and suddenly we had a hit! Until then, I had been taught to move the worm as if it were crawling along the bottom of the lake, and I had been doing it endlessly. That gave me a lot of imagination, or rather, I was able to visualize what kind of movement would make bass react.
Miyake:The worm I used was an OSP HP Shad Tail 2.5 inch. I had a reaction on the bottom, but I used a down-shot rig with a sinker attached under the hook to prevent it from getting rooted.
Ishii's fever started here! He caught five fish in just one hour, so many that we could not keep up with filming.
Ishii:The third fish was a larger size, 46 cm! When it hit, it was so heavy that I mistook it for a root hook. But the next moment, it was pulled with a strong force all at once, and after about 10 minutes of struggle, I was able to catch it safely. At that time, I was just getting the hang of moving the worm, and it felt like the fruits of my hard practice had exploded. It felt good!
And Komatsu, who had been falling apart all over the place, also got a hit.
Komatsu:I was glad that I managed to catch a fish, although it crossed my mind that I might have been the only one to fail to catch a fish while everyone else was catching fish. ...... The Daiwa rod I borrowed was easy to use. Also, like Bob (Ishii), I had him rig a down-shot rig, and it was very responsive. Ikemoto-san also caught fish right away when he threw the same rig. I admire Mr. Miyake's good judgment.
Thus, the excitement reached its peak at the offshore Shiraishi, and time ran out as we moved from one point to another, escaping from the rain clouds. We all managed to catch about 30 fish, so the HOUYHNHNM FISHING CLUB's tour of Lake Biwa came to an end with great success.
