LIVE WITH NATURE 2021 WINTER - AIGLE for BEAT ICE

The joy of farming and the richness of nature brought to you by Hayama's beet ice cream and Aigle.

AIGLE, which continues to convey the preciousness of nature, has been creating items and holding events with naturalists from all over Japan. Currently, AIGLE is working with BEAT ICE, a vegan ice cream maker in Hayama, Kanagawa Prefecture, on a variety of projects. As part of this project, an installation to convey BEAT ICE's world view is currently being held at the Aigle Harajuku store. We interviewed Ms. Yamaguchi of "Beat Ice" and floral collaborator Daisuke Shimura, who was in charge of the installation's decoration. The joy of farming and the richness of nature may be a prescription for our overly convenient modern world.

We want to tell the true story of Beat Ice and Aigle, not superficially.

Q. Could you tell us about the concept behind this installation?

Shimura:I used about five kinds of moss to recreate the terraced rice paddies of "Beet Ice. I also used wheat and other crops to create a theme of an autumn harvest festival.

Although I usually use cut flowers, in that sense, I am dealing with life. Cut flowers can only die, so I take that seriously and try to give them the best chance to live out the rest of their lives. I want to make the most of the flowers.

There is a reason why there are two mannequins, isn't there?

Shimura:That's right. I imagined Yamaguchi and his wife Saki. At first, I thought it would be okay not to use mannequins, but "Beat Ice" was created by the two of us, and I knew I could not express this terraced rice field without the two of them. Also, the upcycled jackets by "AEGLE" are available in both men's and women's styles. I would be happy if the viewer could sense the depth and story behind the jackets.

How did you get to know Mr. Yamaguchi?

Shimura:We were introduced by a mutual friend. At the time of the first Beat Ice event, a friend of ours asked me to do the decorations. The day before (laughs).

Mr. Shimura wears a jacket with GORE-TEX membrane. I like this jacket because my job requires me to be tough," says Shimura.¥51,700

That's very sudden (laughs). It is not so easy to prepare materials.

Shimura:That's right. But they said they could bring rice and other things. I was totally short, but I accepted with a "yes, yes" (laughs). (Laughs) Also, this couple is very honest. The ice cream is delicious, of course, but it's not businesslike at all, and their feelings are very pure. That's why I wanted to cooperate with them.

And that's how you got connected with Aigle.

Shimura:Yamaguchi-kun made the connection. Of course, this was client work as well, but you can't create something good if you don't enjoy it. Aigle is full of pleasant people, so I had a lot of fun. It was almost like playing with them half the time (laughs). (Laughs) The vibes of this team are quite compatible.

AIGLE for BEAT ICE," a special installation by Daisuke Shimura, will be on display until Thursday, December 2 this year.

"LIVE WITH NATURE AIGLE for BEAT ICE" Special Contents Aigle has launched a special content. The special content introduces the situation surrounding terraced rice paddies and Beat Ice's efforts to preserve them through the production and sale of ice cream, along with model looks from the winter collection. A book with the same content was compiled using "rice ink" made from rice bran that had been partially discarded. The book will be distributed to customers who purchase the products at Aigle stores and online.Check out the special content here.
