Last month I wrote in this column that I wanted an axe, and I successfully got one. I am looking around for a log to use as a base, but there are so many different types that it is hard to narrow it down. I need a log that is tall enough for chopping firewood...hmmm.

I am a person who easily gets hot and cools down, but my passion for bonfires has not yet waned. After I had prepared a fire pit and other things, I became interested in firewood, so I visited a fire and outdoor store "Ilbif" in Misato City, Saitama Prefecture, and bought a lot of cherry and sawtooth oak firewood. Then, next, I needed an axe. A machete would be fine, but what tickled my appetite more was an axe, so I did some research and came across "Grensfors Bruk" made in Sweden, where each item is handmade by a craftsman. It is a small axe that fits comfortably in the hand and is well-balanced enough to be used in a variety of situations, making it the perfect first axe for me.

The name "Hoka" is synonymous with running shoes. Hoka has established a surprisingly thick midsole, and its fans are rapidly increasing due to its comfort. Today, Hoka has established a strong presence not only in road and trail running, but also in the fashion scene. Hoka's apparel is bad, in the best sense of the word. There is an odd rain jacket with a slanted zip and no hood for some reason, pocketable, ultra-lightweight, stretchy wind pants, and a cap with a bungee cord reminiscent of the U.L. style. Basically, I like to wear things that have a purpose. For running, for sheltering from wind and rain, for keeping my body cool, for drying sweat quickly, and so on. Rather than relying on brand value, vague designs, or ever-changing trends, I enjoy fashion with a thorough knowledge of functionality. The TV program "Ariyoshi-kun no Masanao Sanpo" airs on Saturdays at noon. As some of you may have seen, the February 5 episode was set in Mishuku, Tokyo. January of this year. I was excited to see the "Model 4151" cups by Tonette, which were reissued by Complex, an interior design store in Meguro, in cooperation with Akita Woodworks. I wanted to see them in person, so I went to the store and found these vintage cups. I was told that the store handles a certain amount of dead stock from 1959 to 1973, which was found in a warehouse in Toki City, Gifu Prefecture, after the defeat in World War II and exported from Japan to the United States. What I fell in love with this cup was its blue coloring and its chubby, charming form. Unlike the folk art concept, it is an industrial product and should not be allowed to be blurred, but I couldn't help but love it for its imperfections that are typical of the age of manual labor, and for its good coloring. One of the reasons was that I use a Mikasa cup from the same period at home. After such an encounter, I decided to put the "Model 4151" on hold. But on the way home, I told him that it was too cheap (for the quality), and I think I will buy it this year.
