I need a log.

Last month I wrote in this column that I wanted an axe, and I successfully got one. I am looking around for a log to use as a base, but there are so many different types that it is hard to narrow it down. I need a log that is tall enough for chopping firewood...hmmm.

GRANSFORS BRUK

The Axe of Glensforsch Bruck

I may want a large one one of these days.

I am a person who easily gets hot and cools down, but my passion for bonfires has not yet waned. After I had prepared a fire pit and other things, I became interested in firewood, so I visited a fire and outdoor store "Ilbif" in Misato City, Saitama Prefecture, and bought a lot of cherry and sawtooth oak firewood. Then, next, I needed an axe. A machete would be fine, but what tickled my appetite more was an axe, so I did some research and came across "Grensfors Bruk" made in Sweden, where each item is handmade by a craftsman. The fact that the maker's initials are engraved on the axe and that there are more than 10 types of axes in the lineup tickles my manly fancy. The one we picked up this time is the "Wildlife," one of the most popular among the many models available. It is a small axe that fits comfortably in the hand and is well-balanced enough to be used in a variety of situations, making it the perfect first axe for me.

Tecne bagless blouson

Beautiful to look at, beautiful to wear.

This is the last time I will use the term "Tecne," a brand created by Rikiya Matsumura, a former designer of Yoshida Kaban. The brand is so wonderfully creative that there is no need for such peripheral information at all.Last time, the first thing to do was to get a bag.but this time it is clothing. This time, I would like to introduce some clothes. As the name "bagless blouson" suggests, it is a swing-top blouson with excellent storage capacity, but I was more struck by the sexiness and dignity that this piece of clothing exudes than by its functionality. In particular, the elegance of the accessories and lining is, to say the least, superb. It is an item that makes you stand up straight and has a pleasant sense of tension.

nonnative

Non-native sneakers

A pair filled with elegance.

Sometimes I feel empty when I introduce only special orders. I understand that there is a lot of buzz, but I feel like I lose sight of what is important if I only follow that. That is why I am so relieved when I find something I like or want to introduce inline. I would like to focus once again on the "non-native" center-zip sneakers, which have been a staple for several seasons now and are based on the motif of basketball shoes. I am not sure if this is an appropriate expression, but I think this is the kind of sneakers that a luxury brand should be making. Most of the time, sneakers made by such brands are not so good. I think this pair has such dignity. By the way, the left one is from the last collection and already sold out, and the right one is the new color.

E5 eyevan

E5 Ivan's glasses

The unthinkable lightness of existence.

Last year, when the brand launchedI'd like to do an interview with you. It's been about five months since we first talked about it, and I'm still wondering about its charms. It has been almost five months since then, and I am still interested in it. What attracted me the most was the fact that this design was the result of refining the functions. I have heard this kind of story before, but this time I was most convinced. I don't think beauty of use is an easy word to use, but I think it is the right word to describe the E5 Ivan. In a sense, it is a very open product, with almost no ego of the creator. If you have not experienced this product, please try it for yourself. You will surely notice the lightness of its existence. ¥47,300

Full marathon.

Road races make me nervous. I honestly don't like the pressure of pushing myself for hours on end to achieve a personal best. On the other hand, I get excited about trail races, even if they are 100 miles, because I don't care about the time. Both are running, but there's a lot going on.

White Mountaineering × MILESTONE

White Mountaineering x Milestone headlamps

High performance and stylish.

When I go into the mountains, just in case, I try to have equipment that will get me through to some extent if I get lost. First aid kit, rations, smart phone, etc. I always carry a headlamp in my bag, regardless of the length of the daylight hours, to protect myself from the danger of being lost or slipping when the sun goes down. However, most headlamps are designed to be unobtrusive. We therefore chose a collaboration model of Milestone's famous MS-G2, arranged by White Mountaineering. It is an ultra-light and compact model, weighing only 28 grams. In addition to a maximum light intensity of 400 lumens, the wide illumination specification ensures high visibility even on nighttime roads. The belt is finished with a pattern unique to "White Mountaineering" to give it a stylish look while still functioning properly in the field. In reality, I don't use this headlamp often, but I am looking forward to using it sooner or later. For now, I'm going to keep it in my backpack.

HOKA ONE ONE

Hoka Oneone Apparel

It's bad, in a good way.

The name "Hoka" is synonymous with running shoes. Hoka has established a surprisingly thick midsole, and its fans are rapidly increasing due to its comfort. Today, Hoka has established a strong presence not only in road and trail running, but also in the fashion scene. Hoka's apparel is bad, in the best sense of the word. There is an odd rain jacket with a slanted zip and no hood for some reason, pocketable, ultra-lightweight, stretchy wind pants, and a cap with a bungee cord reminiscent of the U.L. style. Although the brand is unconventional to begin with, its philosophy has been passed down from generation to generation in its apparel as well. Unfortunately, however, sales are still limited to the official website. It is this kind of aggressive item that I would like to actually hold in my hands to check it out.

BROOKS.

Brooks Walking Shoes

Shoes for walking.

Basically, I like to wear things that have a purpose. For running, for sheltering from wind and rain, for keeping my body cool, for drying sweat quickly, and so on. Rather than relying on brand value, vague designs, or ever-changing trends, I enjoy fashion with a thorough knowledge of functionality. That is why I naturally gravitated toward the "Addiction Walker V-Strap2," a model for walking by Brooks, which has an established reputation for running shoes. The upper is made of high-quality full-grain leather, and the midsole features a cushioning material that changes its shock-absorbing properties depending on your walking speed. The sole structure supports the arch of the foot and leads you to a natural gait, providing you with a comfortable walking experience. Above all, the clean, all-white look and strap specification are also attractive. I usually only wear running shoes, but since I don't run every day, I thought I would get these as an option for days when I do a lot of walking.

GARMIN

Garmin GPS Watches

Multifunctional GPS watch that tickles men's fancy.

I wear a GPS watch on a regular basis. Although I am not proficient at using all of them, the fact that all kinds of functions are packed into a compact device like a wristwatch is enough to tickle my manly fancy, isn't it? The recently released Garmin fēnix 7X Sapphire Dual Power is a prime example of such a feature-packed watch. The fēnix 7X Sapphire Dual Power watch features a durable and scratch-resistant power sapphire glass display, combined with a high-transparency solar panel, and an ultra-long battery life of approximately 122 hours in GPS mode. It also supports a touch screen, allowing for situation-specific control. Other great features for daily running include map navigation for checking routes and a built-in LED light for nighttime visibility. Having just switched to the new system, there are still some parts that I am not sure how to use, but I think one of the things I will enjoy is learning in the field as I use it.

UA 25th→→→30th ANNIV.

I've seen UA live many times, but last month's show at Shibukyo was the best. Her powerful and vital voice shook me to the core and gave me goosebumps. The set was also good, with songs from their past activities, mostly singles. I was especially touched by the a cappella rendition of "Light Blue".

Sasquatchfabrix. tracksuits

Mood of the Rockers.

My personal impression when I first saw this tracksuit was that it looked like something out of "ROCKERS". ROCKERS" is a Jamaican movie featuring many famous reggae artists, and is a masterpiece that vividly depicts daily life in Kingston in the 1970s. There are many highlights, but the most impressive is the fashion. Among them, the rockers in tracksuits were so cool that I used to imitate them. This tracksuit from Sasquatchfabrix. The deep, glossy, elegant Bordeaux color, the lace side tapes, and the lion embroidered on the left chest in the same color as the body are the best features of this tracksuit. It has a mood as if someone might wear it in the movie "ROCKERS. While it is possible to wear each item separately, I personally recommend wearing them as a set-up by far. Add a loud-colored Jacquard T to the innerwear and go all out rockers.

Denim Setup with Yoke

Denim after a long time.

This spring, I am completely in the mood for denim. There is the trend toward a return to American casual, a reevaluation of masculine styles such as work and outdoor wear, etc., but the most important reason for my personal mood is simply that denim is the clothing I can wear without any hesitation. What is different from the past, however, is that I feel more comfortable in clothes with a little bit of design than in those that are more authentic. For example, the denim set-up from YORK has a selvedge on both the top and bottom where the denim has been peeled off, and the pants are made of two different denim fabrics to bring about a change in color fading. Incidentally, the straight lines of the selvedge were inspired by the work of American artist Barnett Newman. Such a story is also very touching.

STRIPES FOR CREATIVE

Stripes for Creative sweatpants

The unstoppable desire for sweatpants.

Sweat pants are very convenient for us, as we move around a lot in our work, including daily desk work, location and studio shoots, interviews, exhibitions, research visits, and so on. They are comfortable to wear, durable, and can be worn with anything. You may be thinking, "How many pairs do I need? You may be thinking, "How many pairs do I need? As I am researching such gray sweatpants on a daily basis, I am most interested in the sweat cargoes from "Stripes for Creative" as shown here. The moderately thick, twin-yarn pile lining is comfortable, and the exquisitely balanced silhouette, loose but not sloppy, can be worn with any top. I was also attracted to the cargo pockets, which are surprisingly rare in sweatpants. Right now, I'm feeling like wearing them with work boots like Red Wing's.

TEMBEA × HIMAA

Tenbear × Masanao Hirayama's wallets

I found a wallet that fits my gender.

This look is a one hit KO. I fell in love at first sight. These adorable "Ten Bear" wallets are printed with illustrations by artist Masanao Hirayama (HIMAA), who is a frequent customer of HOUYHNHNM's. As you can see, the small change purse holds four 100-yen coins, and the long wallet has 100,000,000-yen bills on it. As you can see, the small change purse has four 100-yen coins, and the long wallet has 100,000,000-yen bills on it. The humor and "off-the-cuff" look of the wallets is so charming that we couldn't help but pick one up. Despite its kitschy appearance, this wallet is also easy to use, with the main body made of cowhide leather and a zipper that opens in an L-shape for easy access to money. It will be interesting to see the reaction of the cashier when I pull it out at the checkout, and because it is something I carry with me every day, I wanted to use something fun.

Jacket by Is Not Able to Avert

Treasures found at local markets.

Last April, we featured the newly launched brand "Is Not Available" in this column. To reiterate, the brand is headed by Yuichi Danjo, owner of "JOHN," a well-known store in Yoyogi Uehara, Tokyo. As he describes it as "a mysterious project that seems to be a JOHN original but is ambiguous," product releases are extremely irregular. The release is suddenly announced on Instagram, and only a certain number of products are lined up in stores, so you may not be able to get your hands on them after some time has passed. This time, we received news of the new "RIDLEY JACKET" from "Is Not Available. The "RIDLEY" refers to the Ridley Road Market in Dalston, an area of East London. Mr. Danjo said, "It is a place I always visit when I go shopping, but it is like a place for local people to relax in their daily lives, and there is nothing fashionable about it (laughs). (Laughs). I made this jacket using a jacket I happened to buy there as a motif. It has an anonymous look, but the sleeves are made by sampling details from a famous maison's clothing, and the lining is made of a lightweight, warm-keeping fabric. The exquisite color, which is neither black nor gray, is also very nice, isn't it? We think it is only a matter of time before this item sells out as well. If you are interested in this item, we recommend that you contact us as soon as possible.

Taiga Takahashi

Taiga Takahashi's jacket

The future lies in the past.

Last December, I visited Gion, Kyoto. The purpose was not for sightseeing, but to report on "T.T.," a comprehensive art space created by Taiga Takahashi. I have been to many stores in the past, but this space was truly breathtaking. What is amazing is that Taiga Takahashi, who directs the brand, is only 26 years old. I don't think it's easy for someone his age to digest Japanese art in his own way and come up with a great answer. It is often said that age is a factor in the world of sports, but I feel that a new era has finally arrived in fashion as well. If you missed this interview article,If you look here. And you can see why we write so much. What I picked up here are the new coveralls. I was attracted by their simplicity and beauty, and the way they seem to have stripped away everything superfluous. When we talked to the press, Mr. Takahashi's attention was drawn to a work jacket from around 1910, which had been discovered in a coal mine. He says that he researched and revived the simplified designs of the American era of mass production and mass consumption to create this authentic piece of clothing. The future lies in the past. This jacket reminds us of this saying.

AMI PARIS

Amy Paris Sweatshirt

Tour of vintage clothing stores.

Four years ago, I interviewed Alexandre Matucci, designer of Ami Paris, on the occasion of his visit to Japan. This was not just an interview, but an exploration of his fashion philosophy while visiting vintage clothing stores in Yoyogi Uehara, Tokyo. I am sorry to be so forward, but this article is quite well written and interesting to read even now. Through the interview, I learned that he is a very friendly and nice person, but he is also very intelligent and sincere about his creations. If you have time, please click here. And the photo shows the brand's classic sweatshirt with the logo on the chest. The logo, commonly known as "ami de coeur," is a combination of a heart and an A, and was originally Alexandre's personal signature. The understated design in the same color as the body of the shirt is so good that we just had to pick it up. I am thinking that the next time I visit Japan, I might like to do a vintage clothing store tour in Koenji.

PUEBCO

Puebco Bags

Mishuku Sanpo.

The TV program "Ariyoshi-kun no Masanao Sanpo" airs on Saturdays at noon. As some of you may have seen, the February 5 episode was set in Mishuku, Tokyo. The show featured a delicious western-style restaurant, a roast beef store, and a shop selling insect and reptile motif (!!) accessories. accessories, Ariyoshi's group visited "Puebko Mishuku". It was impressive to see them examining the products in the store while making quips about them, and it made us want to visit the store as well. I think I'll go there in the near future, together with the yakitori restaurant that Ariyoshi and his friends visited afterwards (laughs). Introduced here is a bag from Puebko. This bag is made of a fabric found in India, and the bright stripes, which are hard to find in Japan, are a must-see. The fabric is a mixture of virgin and recycled plastic, so it has a tensile strength and will not tear even if you put heavy items in it. Moreover, the handles are made of aluminum. It is sure to be useful in a variety of situations, such as shopping bags and luggage storage. And the best part is the exquisite low price. Puebco is a company to be reckoned with.

Breakfast.

I don't eat in the morning because it is too much trouble. I only drink coffee. But the other day, I had a chance to go to a breakfast tasting interview. While chatting with the chef there, he told me that he often gets hints from fashion and other genres rather than other people's cooking. So I decided to follow his lead and choose something other than clothing for this project.

COMPLEX

Vintage cups in the complex

Digs.

January of this year. I was excited to see the "Model 4151" cups by Tonette, which were reissued by Complex, an interior design store in Meguro, in cooperation with Akita Woodworks. I wanted to see them in person, so I went to the store and found these vintage cups. I was told that the store handles a certain amount of dead stock from 1959 to 1973, which was found in a warehouse in Toki City, Gifu Prefecture, after the defeat in World War II and exported from Japan to the United States. What I fell in love with this cup was its blue coloring and its chubby, charming form. Unlike the folk art concept, it is an industrial product and should not be allowed to be blurred, but I couldn't help but love it for its imperfections that are typical of the age of manual labor, and for its good coloring. One of the reasons was that I use a Mikasa cup from the same period at home. After such an encounter, I decided to put the "Model 4151" on hold. But on the way home, I told him that it was too cheap (for the quality), and I think I will buy it this year.

Beats by Dr. Dre

Beats by Dr. Dre fully wireless earphones

First beets .

I've been trying out a lot of wireless earbuds since I got hooked on them. I've been experimenting with a variety of wireless earbuds, but for some reason I've never picked up a pair of Beats by Dr. Dre, the "Beats Fit Pro" model that went on sale at the end of January, and I have to say that they are very easy to use. I had never tried Apple's AirPods, but I was amazed at the instantaneous connection, the noise cancellation, and the natural sound absorption. I was surprised at how natural the noise cancellation was and why I hadn't used it before. They give a well-balanced listening experience. The fixed wingtips are used to improve the fit, and the fit is also excellent. I have nothing to say about these. Also, the color, which I don't want to lose since all my accessories are black, is also very nice and sober.

PAPIER LABO.

Incense from Papier Labs.

It is still paper.

Since I work on the web, I am almost paperless, but I still receive many documents on paper. Each time I do, I realize that paper is, after all, a reliable material. It was at this point that I suddenly thought of PapierLabo, which handles paper and paper-related items. I had been interested in many of these items for some time, but the one I was thinking of buying was incense made of paper. I had used paper incense in sheet form before, such as Santa Maria Novella's spicy-scented "Armenia Paper" and sweet vanilla-scented "Papier Dalmenii," so I was first struck by the rope-like appearance of the paper incense. The scent was rather wild, as it was made from powdered cedar. This is good, too. I will use it slowly in a Mino ware ashtray from the 60's that I bought in Fussa during the interview.

THINK OF THINGS

Sink of Things file box trolley

Work and interior design.

Nearby PapierLabo, which we introduced one day ago, is the lifestyle store and cafe "Think of Things". It is operated by Kokuyo, a company that everyone has had the pleasure of working with at least once. KOKUYO is a company that handles everything from stationery to furniture, so it is easy to fall in love with the simple, yet thoughtful items available. Among them, the "File Box Trolley S" from "ANY BOX LIGHT," which was released last year as an adaptation of an existing series, is one that I have been wanting to have at home. It is a set of a frame with casters and four file boxes, both of which are unified in gray. The ruggedness of the steel frame and the softness of the boxes and color balance each other out nicely. The casters make it easy to move around, and it balances well with the furniture. Just move this trolley from one desk to another, and it can easily be transformed into a workspace. You can switch out your work tools here and there, and that's exactly what you need now.
