Feel the purity of Kenichi Asai with your ears and eyes. And sky blue.

The music industry is facing a new normal today, with a shift from packaged media to subscriptions, and with many restrictions on the type of music that can be performed. While many musicians are seeking new forms of expression in this headwind environment for the music industry, Kenichi Asai has been steadily expanding his activities. This year, SHERBETS, which has been active for the longest time in its career, relaunched with the long-awaited new album "SAME. At the same time, they announced the publication of their art book "Beauty of Decayed Trans Am" and the holding of a solo exhibition. To commemorate the release of the new album and art book, we went to meet Mr. Asai, who is still energetically active even after more than 20 years since the establishment of his label. As in the previous interview, we present the words of the bard and painter, who answered our fan's questions in a natural way, as much as possible.

The story spins out in the middle of life, reminiscing about what has been lost and affirming what is to come.

-I have been listening to songs on subscriptions more and less often and listening to albums as a whole, but before this interview, listening to an album from head to toe still gave me the depth of "this is what music appreciation is all about.

. as long as it is a complete album, yes. I believe that you can listen to any of my works from the beginning to the end, but not so much. Not so much, or maybe not so much, but since some of the old songs are very long, once you listen to them once, your mind is occupied and you don't need to listen to them for a while. I think there might have been some albums that I didn't need to listen to for a while. In my opinion. I think we are happy no matter how people listen to our music.

I made "SAME" between last year and this year, and I made about 20 songs that came to me at that time that I thought "this is good," and I selected them and arranged them at the end of the project.

-What are some of the themes that you have incorporated into "SAME"?

. I think the theme should be whatever comes out of me at the time, because I see and feel a lot of things on a daily basis. I see and feel many things on a daily basis, so what I felt when I was in my 30s became the album I made in my 30s, and now that I am in the latter half of my life, the words of a 57-year-old person naturally become the album I make. If there is a theme, I guess it is that I am making the album as I am feeling. It's the same with every album.

-Some of the songs, such as "Happy Everyday," are straightforward in the SHERBETS style, while others, such as "France," seem to have a variation that is only possible because of their age.

France. It's my favorite (laughs).

-I like this song because I can imagine a scene of strolling in the streets of Paris. In these days when it is not easy to travel abroad, you can listen to it at .......

Nostalgia? Like, that was a good time , you know.

-. yes. I thought there was a longing for a lost world.

. yes. At my age, that's what happens naturally. It doesn't become a song that says, "Let's get going. It is possible to write lyrics without thinking about that, but it is totally different from songs written by 20-somethings. . Even "France" is a story about old memories. . I should add, it wasn't just candy balls. The first three candy bars I got were the first three candy bars I got, and then someone gave me some coins, and in the end I got about 48 francs. The camera was still film at that time, so I still have the candy bars and coins in the film case.

(Note) In the lyrics, "In the Bastille underpass, I plucked my guitar in space language / Then someone walked by and put something in my guitar case / I was so happy I took a quick look / And lo and behold, three candies!" . There is a part of the song that says, "I'm so happy.

. - What is written in the lyrics is a real life experience.

. yes. I don't do folk dancing, though .

Note: There is a passage that reads, "Sokokora inside the cafe, everyone's already drinking / OK, folk dance time."

-What is your favorite song on the new album besides "France"?

. "Grantham". This song is a sister song to AJICO's "Connection" or ....... I proposed this lyric for AJICO, but UA said, "I'll write the lyrics myself," so I was happy to leave it to him. But I liked the lyrics so much that I said, "I'll do it in this form someday. The chords of the chorus are different from those of "Connection," but the A melody is the same, just in a different key. I thought it would be a waste to leave it lying around, so I left it in a form.

-A pair of songs with different bands might be a fun way to enjoy Mr. Asai's project. . Then again, the bonus disc on the limited first pressing was also worth listening to.

The bonus disc is a room recording and rehearsal recorded with a handheld recorder , which I think is very rare. The song "LIP CREAM" is especially good, and I made a lip balm to go with the song for sale at the exhibition.

-What is the meaning behind the tour title, "Kind of Desire"?

Everyone wants to be happy, and that is why they are working hard to earn money and raise a family. That is good and natural. However, even if you are happy, there is an unhappy family next door. It is the nature of all living things to be happy as long as you are happy, and I do not deny that this is one of our desires. However, if the people around you are not happy too, then you will suffer somewhere in your heart. So I want a society or country where as many people as possible can laugh with each other," he said. That is a slightly different kind of desire, isn't it?

. There is a desire to be satisfied as long as we are the only ones doing well. There is the desire to be satisfied as long as only we are doing well, and then there is the desire to go one step further and say, "We can't feel good unless everyone else is happy, too. That's why we have to go there! There is a different kind of desire. That's what I'm talking about.

I think I have hurt a lot of people, and I know I am selfish in some ways. So I want my songs to be beautiful. How selfish I am .
