I'm sure you've worn thousands and thousands of items of clothing, but what is your image of "Champion"?

Even before I joined "BEAMS," I had spent my life being baptized in American casual wear because of my love for American brands that are solid and honest. Among the many American brands, I knew "Champion" as a matter of course, and it stood out as authentic American sportswear.

I am from downtown Tokyo, so in junior high school I often went to Ueno to hang out and buy Champion T-shirts. In high school, we were allowed to wear casual clothes, so I would go to Shibuya after school, shop, and go home. Naturally, I bought a variety of Champion sweatshirts, T-shirts, and other items.

Do you think that "Champion" was a natural choice for ......?

That's right. Before I joined BEAMS, when I was a college student, I started to appreciate vintage clothing, and I was attracted to rare items such as "runner's tags" and "red/blue tags. I was collecting them. I have been wearing "Champion" ever since then.

Today's first styling features a 9oz TERRY FLEECE hoodie and sweatshirt shorts based on the classic fleece of the 90's. What are the key points of the outfit?

A sweatshirt hoodie and long-length pants would look a little wild, so we chose a pair of sweatshorts, which are just right for spring, to complete the set-up. We brought out the California air and urban look. The back fabric is comfortable to the touch and nice to wear.

I thought the choice of black boots instead of sneakers gave a more sophisticated impression.

Yes, it's casual, but the black color pulls it together and gives it a mature look. Even in an all-black outfit, the C logo on the Champion item adds an accent that makes it look light. I also added a twist by removing the hood string, which I often do with hoodies.

The combination of the two is very effective. What was your first champion item?

I was of the generation that adored the hoodie that Eddie Murphy wore in "Beverly Hills Cop" or the sweatshirt top and bottom that Sylvester Stallone wore in "Rocky," so I'm not certain, but perhaps the gray marbled hoodie or the gray sweatpants were my original experience! I'm not sure, but I think it was probably a gray marbled hoodie or gray sweatpants.
